Location: Canton, Ohio

Schedule: Monday – Friday; 7 AM to 3:30 PM, Overtime as required.

Position Overview:

The Dimensional Layout Technician is responsible for performing precision measurements and dimensional inspections on forged components to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, blueprints, and 3D models. This position utilizes advanced layout and inspection tools, including CMM, laser scanning, and Faro Arm technology, to verify part geometry and support quality documentation requirements such as First Article Inspections (AS9102) and PPAP submissions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Dimensional Inspection & Measurement: Perform precise dimensional inspections of forgings and components using CMM, precision measurement gauges, and laser scanning equipment. Measure, lay out, and verify part dimensions against blueprints, 3D models, and engineering specifications. Apply GD&T principles to interpret and confirm part conformance. Maintain traceability and accuracy of all measurement data.
• Documentation & Reporting: Prepare and complete First Article Inspection (FAI) reports in accordance with AS9102 standards. Support PPAP documentation and dimensional layout records for new and revised parts. Document and maintain organized records of inspection data, findings, and results. Assist in preparing inspection summaries and reports for customer review and internal reference.
• Quality Support & Root Cause Analysis: Inspect nonconforming parts and assist with root cause analysis and corrective actions. Communicate findings to engineering, production, and quality teams. Recommend and support continuous improvements to inspection processes and equipment calibration methods.
• Equipment & Software Operation: Operate, maintain, and verify calibration status of measurement equipment including CMM, precision measurement devices, and laser scanners. Utilize PolyWorks or equivalent 3D metrology software to analyze measurement results and generate reports. Ensure all measurement systems are functioning accurately and efficiently.
• Safety, Housekeeping, and Continuous Improvement: Follow all plant safety procedures and utilize required PPE at all times. Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to quality system enhancements.

Qualifications:

• Three (3) or more years of related dimensional layout or precision measurement experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles and applications.
• Proficient in blueprint reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings.
• Experience operating CMM, Faro Arm, laser scanners, and using PolyWorks or similar 3D inspection software.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent attention to detail, analytical ability, and organizational skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently or in a team setting.
• Professional demeanor with a strong commitment to safety and quality.

Work Environment:

This position operates within a heavy industrial forging environment and requires the use of appropriate PPE. Regular exposure to heat, noise, and moving equipment is expected.
