Duties Description Seasonal Fish and Wildlife Technician 1 position based in Avon, Livingston County. Primary duties include entering fisheries related data into NYSDEC Statewide Fisheries Database. Additionally, during October and November, the candidate will assist with an angler creel survey on Catharine Creek. This position will also assist regional staff with various fishery management activities including field sampling in lakes and streams. Field sampling methods include electrofishing (boat, deep-water, and stream), gill netting, trap netting, and seining to collect biological data. Limnological sampling will also be conducted on the western Finger Lakes. Data compilation and analyses will be conducted. Candidate must be able to work individually and as a member of a team. Weekend work will be required during the angler survey in October and November. Occasional weekend and night work, as well as overnight travel will be required the remainder of the appointment. Candidate must be able to work in all types of weather and be able to traverse rough terrain. Technician must effectively interact and communicate with the public.

Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography. Preferred Qualifications: Experience trailering and operating boats as long as 20 feet in length, interacting with the public and identifying various fish species. Experience with Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Word, various fisheries sampling gear including boat and backpack electrofishing, setting and retrieving gill and trap nets.

Additional Comments This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 11/30/2026. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.Must be able to work in remote areas.Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required.Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required.Weekends and holidays may be required.
