LIFEGUARD INSTRUCTOR

Job Description

Purpose: The purpose of the Swimming Pool program is to provide social development services for Boys & Girls Clubs’ members. This is accomplished through the implementation of a weekly program plan that includes individual and group swim lessons, tournaments and contests, group clubs and lifesaving training. The pool program promotes individual and group water safety skills, health/fitness and opportunity for leadership development. Informal counseling, both individually and in groups, occurs daily in the swimming pool.

Segments: Program Related – In order to provide quality experience for Boys & Girls Clubs members, Swimming Pool instructors are expected to plan a program which includes:

1. Swim lessons for shallow water and deep-water swimmers.
2. Supervised free swim periods.
3. Tournaments and contests daily.
4. Low-organized group games daily.
5. All shallow end students must be properly fit with life jackets and worn when in the pool.

The above program activities should reflect specific age groups and boy/girl/coed opportunities.

Non-Program Related – In addition to program duties, Swimming Pool instructors are expected to:

1. Maintain constant safe supervision when pool is open and follow the swimming pool guidelines for safe operation.
2. Follow written pool maintenance procedures in cooperation with Unit Director and maintenance staff.
3. Clean and hose deck area daily.
4. Secure area at all times pool is not open.
5. Maintain attractive up-to-date bulletin boards and displays, including weekly program display and members-of-the-month.
6. Organize and keep clean pool storage area and filter room area.
7. Maintain equipment and make minor repairs as needed.
8. Lifeguard certification is up to date with American Red Cross to keep certification up to date.
