Account Clerk
Location: Columbus, OH
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (35 hours per week; schedule provided at start)
Pay Rate: $17.00/hour
Position Overview
The Account Clerk role supports the Division of Unclaimed Funds in reuniting Ohio residents with unclaimed or forgotten assets. This position is responsible for reviewing and processing claims, conducting research, ensuring compliance with state regulations, and serving as a point of contact for claimants and reporting agencies.
Candidates must have strong accounting experience, exceptional attention to detail, and advanced computer skills, especially in Microsoft Excel.
Key Responsibilities
- Examine, review, verify, and process claims accurately
- Research and collect supporting documentation to validate claims
- Ensure compliance with Ohio Unclaimed Funds laws and procedures
- Analyze reports, forms, and financial documentation
- Process complex claims requiring in-depth research and problem solving
- Communicate with claimants and reporting agents regarding claim status and required documentation
- Serve as a primary point of contact for incoming claimant inquiries
- Maintain accurate records and documentation within internal systems
- Utilize Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, for data tracking and reporting
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of recent accounting experience
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to analyze and process large volumes of information accurately
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to attend 4–6 weeks of paid training
- Ability to travel to downtown Columbus, OH for training and work assignments
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet ONE of the following:
- Completion of undergraduate core coursework in accounting
- Minimum of 2 years of recent accounting experience
- Completion of undergraduate coursework in business administration, economics, computer science, or related field with:
- 16 semester hours OR
- 24 quarter hours in accounting
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
Training & Work Location Information
- Paid training will last approximately 4–6 weeks
- Training and work will take place in downtown Columbus, OH
- Parking is not provided at the Columbus location
- Position may begin earlier than July 1st

Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework in accounting, business administration, economics, or computer science
- Advanced Excel skills
- Experience handling financial records, claims, or auditing functions
- Strong customer service and communication abilities
