- Administer medications, including those used in detox and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), according to prescriber orders and clinical protocols
- Monitor and document patient responses to medications, treatments, and withdrawal symptoms, promptly reporting any changes to supervising medical staff
- Assist in the assessment and ongoing monitoring of patients experiencing detoxification, ensuring comfort and safety throughout the withdrawal process
- Support the implementation of individualized treatment plans by providing direct nursing care in alignment with therapeutic goals
- Educate patients and families on medication routines, health management strategies, and components of the recovery process
- Collaborate with registered nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians, and behavioral health staff to coordinate care and share clinical observations
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation in compliance with Ohio Board of Nursing standards, OhioMHAS, and facility policies
- Participate in patient care planning meetings, contributing observations and input to support individualized, recovery-focused treatment
- Assist in medical and psychiatric emergency response procedures, following established safety and escalation protocols
- Maintain infection control practices and ensure the cleanliness and readiness of the nursing station and medication areas
- Track and restock medication and medical supply inventories, including handling and disposal of controlled substances under supervision
- Provide emotional support and therapeutic communication to patients managing withdrawal and early recovery challenges
- Uphold professional boundaries and ethical standards while fostering a respectful, nonjudgmental treatment environment
- Active, unrestricted LPN license in the state of Ohio, in good standing with the Ohio Board of Nursing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience in a behavioral health, detox, or residential addiction treatment setting
- Familiarity with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) protocols and medications
- Experience using clinical assessment tools like CIWA-Ar (Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment for Alcohol) and COWS (Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale) preferred
- Knowledge of withdrawal symptom management, including appropriate monitoring and documentation practices
- Strong understanding of substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, and recovery support principles
- Ability to recognize and report changes in patient status and respond effectively to medical and psychiatric emergencies
- Proficient in maintaining accurate clinical documentation and medication logs in alignment with HIPAA, OhioMHAS, and facility standards
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR); familiarity with systems such as Kipu or similar is a plus
- Excellent observational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a patient-centered and trauma-informed approach
- Commitment to maintaining professional boundaries and ethical nursing conduct in a recovery-focused environment
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed
- Dedication to ongoing learning and professional development in addiction medicine, nursing practices, and behavioral health care
