Work Planner
Summary:
Patrol electric utility right-of-ways and identify vegetation requiring periodic line clearance maintenance to meet applicable specifications or guidelines. Assist in training and mentoring Work Planner personnel. Assist in inspection and auditing of work in progress and completed work. Assist in monitoring the performance of other Work Planners. Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Initial patrol of facilities as directed by the Consulting Utility Forester.
- Identification of “Danger Trees” along assigned SmartTrack ID
- Inspection of “Danger Trees” and determination to record and label tree as “Hazard tree”.
- Appropriately Record “Hazards Tree” Information into SmartTrack system.
- Appropriately label “Hazard Tree” in Field.
- Locate property owners and inform them of the work to be performed.
- Inspect, mark and record trees in accordance with program objectives.
- Inspect site conditions for workplace hazards as well as riparian and environmental concerns.
Requirements:
- A basic familiarity in the operation of and ability to learn computer systems.
- Ability to walk/hike up to 5 miles per day in the field under adverse conditions which include but are not limited to terrain, weather, and seasonal changes.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be willing to travel and stay away from home overnight.
- Professional attitude and neat appearance.
- Self-motivated and efficient.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
Education and Experience:
- Degree in Forestry, Arboriculture, or related field, or related utility experience is desirable.
- Demonstrated abilities in teamwork, leadership and problem solving.
- Experience pulling a 16’ – 18’ utility trailer with a pickup truck preferred.
- Experience operating a Utility Vehicle (UTV) preferred.
- Prior Work Planner or related utility line clearance experience preferred.
Safety Considerations:
May be required to occasionally lift objects up to 80 pounds. Must practice good back posture and ergonomic principles in an office environment. Must wear personal protective equipment in the field to include safety glasses, boots, hard hats, gloves and similar. May be exposed to extreme heat and cold environments on a limited basis. Extended walking, climbing and use of hands and feet will be necessary. May be required to drive a company vehicle and must have a valid driver’s license and approval prior to driving a company owned or leased vehicle.
Environment:
Work alone in an outdoor field environment; vehicle and foot patrol of utility power lines; remote locations as well as urban, city environment; physical demands and travel from site to site, including: walking/hiking on various surfaces including flat, dry, wet, slippery, uneven, rough, steep terrain, hills and slopes; exposure to noise, dust, grease, and all types of weather and temperature conditions; exposure to hazardous traffic conditions.
Physical:
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment; to walk, stand, sit, and operate a motor vehicle for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, run, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; carry, push and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (5 to 20 lbs.); to operate assigned equipment and vehicles; ability to verbally communicate to exchange information with public; ability to see and hear in normal range with or without correction; operate assigned field equipment, including handheld computer, range finder, water backpack, shovel, and traffic cone.

The examination includes a series of tests and evaluations conducted by a certified medical professional to assess overall physical health, identify any potential medical conditions that could interfere with job performance, and verify that the candidate is capable of safely performing the essential duties of the position.
