The IEP Director manages the Intensive English Program to ensure its success. The Director is committed to providing IEP students excellent instruction in English language skills and American culture so that they can develop the language proficiency necessary to fulfill their academic and professional goals. This supports the mission of the Center for Global Education of the University to enhance opportunities for global understanding by building respect and understanding among people of different cultural backgrounds. This position requires on-campus and in-person instruction.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the Intensive English Program.
- Teaches up to 3 IEP courses per term, depending on enrollment.
- Hires and supervises adjunct IEP instructors, including meetings, class observation, and mediation of student-instructor issues.
- Develops and implements the IEP curriculum, procedures, policies, and the assessment plan.
- Directs initial and on-going testing and placement of IEP students, monitoring student progress.
- Directs and coordinates the IEP course schedule, including teaching assignments, textbook selection and orders, and room reservations.
- Prepares and issues IEP grade reports and maintains records of enrollment, schedules, course syllabi, student evaluations, test scores, grade reports, course evaluations and end-of term course summaries.
- Pursues and develops strategic partnerships to expand IEP enrollment, working in connection with the Director of the Center for Global Education and the Office of the Provost.
- Develops and manages the IEP budget.
- Serves as DSO (Designated School Official for F-1 immigration program).
- Co-coordinate off-campus field trips for IEP students.
- Assists in ESL Admission and in reviewing ESL applications.
Qualifications:
- Master of Arts in TESOL; knowledge of a foreign language; experience teaching in an intensive language program; US citizen or lawful permanent resident of the US (for DSO and ARO); native speaker of English or OPI-ACTFL superior rating.
- 5 plus years teaching Intensive English.
- Prior experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; have the ability to learn Microsoft Access, Outlook, Colleague and FileMaker.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of Interim Directors.
- Ability and/or skill to work closely and professionally with others as part of a team; be flexible; pay attention to detail; work without supervision and demonstrate considerable initiative; communicate professionally through both verbal and written means; work well with men and women from diverse backgrounds; manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines; establish departmental goals and priorities; perform advanced supervisory responsibilities; contribute to Capital University's philosophy, strategic plan, goals, and doctrine.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous IEP teaching experience at the collegiate level.
- Basic understanding of, or ability to learn, US immigration policies related to F-1 and J-1 status.
- Proficient experience using Canvas and/or other learning management system.
- Previous management experience.
