SQL Database Administrator
SQL Database Administrator (DBA)Position Overview
The SQL Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the performance, integrity, security, and availability of Microsoft SQL Server databases. This role ensures database systems operate efficiently, securely, and reliably while supporting business applications and reporting needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server environments
- Monitor database performance and implement tuning strategies to optimize queries and system efficiency
- Manage backups, restores, disaster recovery, and high-availability solutions (Always On, clustering, replication)
- Ensure data security, access controls, and compliance with company policies
- Troubleshoot database issues, outages, and performance bottlenecks
- Develop and maintain maintenance plans, indexing strategies, and performance monitoring tools
- Support development teams with database design, schema updates, and query optimization
- Perform data migrations and system upgrades
- Document database configurations, processes, and procedures
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA
- Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server (2016/2019/2022 preferred)
- Experience with performance tuning and optimization
- Knowledge of backup/recovery models and disaster recovery planning
- Experience with SSIS, SSRS, and/or SSMS
- Familiarity with Azure SQL or cloud-based database environments is a plus
- Strong understanding of T-SQL
- Ability to troubleshoot complex database issues
Preferred Skills
- Experience with high-availability environments (Always On Availability Groups)
- Knowledge of PowerShell scripting
- Experience supporting production environments
- Familiarity with data warehousing concepts
- Microsoft SQL certifications (preferred but not required)
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
