Job Responsibilities:
- Sustainability Program, Strategy, Policies, and Practices - Collaborate with the CCO to develop and support a corporate Steering Committee to maintain, advance, and oversee a multi-year sustainability strategy and action plan. Assess risks and opportunities to inform Company's sustainability priorities. Investigate opportunities to increase energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and minimize waste throughout Company's operations and supply chain. Work with Marketing and other departments on communications to key stakeholders relating to sustainability matters and achievements. Develop and lead training sessions for employees on sustainability topics. Conduct ongoing research and benchmarking to help Company stay informed of global trends, best practices, market developments, and customer expectations with respect to global sustainability topics.
- Regulatory Compliance - Understand and lead (working with internal stakeholders and external consultants) Company's compliance with the existing global regulatory framework, including without limitation the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act, European Union Taxonomy, Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, California Climate Corporate Data Accountability Act, California Climate-Related Financial Risk Act, and other applicable global regulations. Stay informed of global regulations relating to sustainability and/or ESG topics.
- Data Analysis and Reporting - Work with various departments across the Company on a global basis to collect and track data for purposes of creating reports aligned with applicable standards, regulations, and frameworks such as GHG Protocol, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), and Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). Topical areas include without limitation: (a) energy efficiency and waste minimization throughout operations and the supply chain, (b) climate change mitigation, including the calculation of scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions; (c) sustainable use and protection of water and pollution prevention and control; (d) human rights, working conditions, health and safety, and social responsibility; and (e) sustainable products and solutions. Assist in establishing KPI measures and targets to evaluate performance in reporting areas. Manage and coordinate risk assessments, materiality assessments, and gap analyses as required by known regulations. Lead the selection and implementation of a formalized reporting data management platform to support data collection, storage, approval, and reporting. Serve as the company subject matter expert for current and emerging ESG reporting standards and frameworks. Evaluate, identify, and monitor company reporting capabilities, gaps, and improvement opportunities, and present recommendations to senior management. Lead Company's efforts regarding the completion of customer requests and questionnaires on sustainability and ESG topics, including on various platforms such as EcoVadis.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 8-15 years related experience Bachelor's degree (Sustainability/ESG, Accounting, Finance, or Business)
- - Non-degree considered if 12+ years of related experience along with a high school diploma or GED
- Frequent travel & overnight stays (6-20%)
- This is an onsite position, 5 days a week, in New Bremen, Ohio
Preferred Qualifications:
Proven experience with developing and managing ESG reports, including messaging, content creation, data aggregation/analysis, creative design, and communication delivery. Strong technical knowledge and proven experience leading and working in accordance with applicable global regulations, requirements, and reporting standards and frameworks (such as GHG Protocol, GRI, SASB, TCFD, and CDP). Working knowledge of social and environmental issues. Experience with assurance activities including internal and/or third-party audits. Experience working with external specialists. Strong project management skills and attention to detail. Strong data management skills and analytical thinker. Effective communication with executive leadership and senior management, including experience creating and presenting to senior leaders. Excellent interpersonal and influencer skills with ability to drive cross-functional alignment, collaboration, and change management.
