Director of safety administrative staff
BWC’s core hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm, however, daily start/end times may vary based on operational need across BWC departments. Most positions perform work on-site at one of BWC’s seven offices across the state. BWC offers flex-time work schedules that allow an employee to start the day as early as 7:00am or as late as 8:30am. Flex-time schedules are based on operational need and require supervisor approval. What You’ll Be Doing
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all BWC safety grants and the Safety Council Program, including the Workforce Safety Innovation Center®.
- Direct the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and strategic plans to strengthen Office of Safety Services (OSS) program delivery and enhance customer experience..
- Collect, analyze, and interpret program data and performance metrics to guide evidence-based decisions and long-range planning.
- Represent the Bureau at conferences, statewide committees, and public forums; deliver professional presentations; and cultivate partnerships with employers, trade associations, and safety organizations.
- Supervise, coach, and mentor a multidisciplinary team of program managers, administrators, and support staff, ensuring alignment with OSS goals and fostering professional growth.
- Design and execute targeted outreach strategies and safety campaigns for high-risk industries and worker groups to expand program reach and impact.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to evaluate, adopt, and implement innovative technological solutions that enhance OSS efficiency and service delivery.
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Public Policy, Social Sciences, Data Analytics, or a related discipline.
- A Master’s degree would be highly desirable but not strictly required if offset by strong experience.
- 3-5 Years of progressively responsible experience in:
- Grant Administration or Program Management
- Stakeholder Engagement and Regulator Compliance
- Performance Evaluation and Process Improvement
- Advanced proficiency in:
- Microsoft Office 365 (especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or advanced Excel (pivot tables, charts, graphs)
- Strong leadership and communication skills, including:
- Strategic thinking
- Analytical decision-making
- Report writing and presentation
- Cross-functional collaboration
- This position is overtime exempt.
- THIS POSITION IS UNCLASSIFIED PERSUANT TO ORC 124.11(A)(9).
- Position requires travel (approx. 1%); therefore, persons occupying this position must provide their own transportation and/or legally operate a state owned vehicle.
- The final external applicant selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis prior to appointment to test for illegal drug use. An applicant with a positive test result will NOT be offered employment.
- The final applicant for this position must submit to and pass an extensive background check by the Ohio State Patrol prior to appointment.
- Position may involve overnight travel.
