- Interpret and apply engineering blueprints and other technical documents to ensure accurate machining and fabrication of parts/assemblies.
- Oversee and participate in the hands-on assembly of prototypes as well as production equipment.
- Utilize fabrication equipment, such as welders, grinders, and saws, to assist in producing custom metal parts and assemblies.
- Inspect completed parts using precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers) to ensure they meet required tolerances and quality standards.
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members to troubleshoot machining and fabrication issues and continuously improve processes.
- Build custom fabrication projects by cutting, shaping, and assembling components according to project specifications.
- Drive to learn new skills and practices to assist in building complex machinery.
- Support efforts to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize productivity across the shop.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Excellent mechanical problem-solving abilities a must. Ideal candidate must analyze problems from first principals, then devise innovative solutions.
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; Associates in Engineering Technology an ideal asset, but not necessary.
- A minimum of 3 years of hands-on fabrication and welding experience.
- Hands-on experience in metal fabrication, including primary welding processes, cutting, and grinding.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings and technical documents.
- Excellent spatial visualization skills, understanding complex assemblies that require precise part fitment.
- Skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.) to ensure part/assembly accuracy.
- Basic math skills for measurements and calculations.
- Ability to perform both independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment.
- Dedication to maintaining a safe work environment and producing high-quality results.
- Experience with induction heating, high heat applications, and materials an asset.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, bend, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods of time.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and industrial chemicals.
