Pathologists' Assistant Job Details – Chicago Healthcare

• Location: Chicago, IL 60611 – Work in the heart of Illinois healthcare, steps from Lake Michigan and major cultural attractions.
• Assignment Type: Locum tenens (Travel Pathologists' Assistant job)
• Setting: Hospital Laboratory – Surgical Pathology Unit
• Start Date: September 8, 2025
• End Date: December 1, 2025
• Duration: 12-week travel contract
• Shift: Day shift, 5x8-hour shifts per week (10:00 AM – 6:30 PM)
• Hours per Week: 40
• Weekend Requirement: Yes
• On Call: No

Qualifications – Pathologists' Assistant Jobs in Illinois

• Master of Science degree in Pathologists' Assistant or related field
• ASCP certification as a Pathologists' Assistant (PA) or eligibility for ASCP certification
• Active Illinois Pathologists' Assistant license required prior to start
• Minimum 2 years of direct experience as a Pathologists' Assistant in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting
• Previous travel healthcare experience required
• COVID-19 and Flu vaccinations required (medical exemptions considered for COVID-19 only)
• Ability to provide current license, completed skills checklist, and two recent professional references (one from a supervisor/manager/charge RN within the last year)

Key Responsibilities – Hospital Laboratory Support

• Assist and train pathology residents in gross room techniques and laboratory protocols
• Perform macroscopic description and sectioning of surgical pathology specimens
• Prepare tissues for histological processing and specimen fixation
• Conduct gross and microscopic photography for clinical documentation
• Obtain biological samples for flow cytometry and image analysis
• Review patient clinical information, including scans, X-rays, and laboratory results
• Perform radiography as needed in the clinical laboratory setting
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure high-quality patient care
