Position summary:
The Collaborative Learning Studio (CLS) Tutor/Workshop Leaders work one-on-one with students in-person or online to assist with papers, projects, and assignments for Studio and Liberal Arts courses, as well as time management, motivation, and student success strategies. Peer workshop leaders, with guidance from the Associate Director of Academic Success, assist with brainstorming, planning, and leading artmaking/academic events and workshops, and running the CLS Gallery.
Compensation: $11.00/hour
Qualifications Required:
- Academic Standing: Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and a minimum grade of B+ in any course you will tutor.
- Studio Skills: For studio tutors, a demonstrated mastery of the studio area you will tutor.
- Writing Skills: For writing tutors, a strong understanding of writing mechanics including content, organization, grammar, research, style, and MLA documentation.
- Availability: 5–10 hours per week (10am–5pm M-F; weekends by appointment). Must be available for training the week of August 17.
Qualifications Desired:
- Versatility: Ideal candidates will be able to tutor both writing/liberal arts and studio courses.
- Collaboration: An interest in collaborating with other tutors to create events and workshops.
- Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to support and empathize with students.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Tutoring: Conduct one-on-one sessions in-person or online to assist with Studio and Liberal Arts assignments and student success strategies.
- Programming: Assist with brainstorming, planning, and leading academic events and workshops (e.g., Printmaking, Poetry Writing, Time Management).
- Gallery/Space Management: Assist in running the CLS Gallery and hosting regular writing or study groups for specific classes.
- Administrative: Create and distribute marketing materials; perform data entry, record student attendance, and maintain a tidy workspace.
- Time Reporting Requirement: Report accurate time worked in the designated payroll system by the established deadline.
Success factors/job competencies:
- Public Speaking: Strong public speaking skills for leading workshops and groups.
- Teamwork: Comfortable working both independently one-on-one and collaborating with a team.
- Technical/Admin Skills: Capability to use office equipment for data entry and administrative tasks.
Physical demands and work environment:
- Schedule: Up to 10 hours of work per week throughout the 2025-26 academic year.
- Environment: Ability to work in-office/in-studio to interact effectively with students and staff.
