Department Summary

The head projectionist works closely with the Director and Associate Director of the Athena Cinema to provide technical expertise and professional presentation of all programming at the theater. Manages logistics of screenings and events, monitoring student technical staff and maintaining equipment are primary responsibilities of this position.

Overseeing Logistics of all screenings, theatrical runs and special events, and communicating effectively all technical needs with the Director, Associate Director, and student staff. Public presentation of special events and theatrical events include introduction of guests, audience service and attention and management of the theater environment.

Training and supervision of student projectionist including delegation of specialized tasks such as creation of pre-show playlists, ingestion of DCP files, downloading and conversion of trailers. Maintaining all equipment to ensure the safety, function and reliability of the projection booths, which includes daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of film and digital projectors.


Responsible for coordinating print traffic, purchasing booth supplies, and keeping current on all industry standards, training, and best practices for projection, accessibility services and preshow practices.

Collaborate with Director and Associate Director on marketing of the Athena in relation to the preshow. This includes membership campaigns, sponsor underwriting and donor relations.



Position Profile

Plans and organizes campus events. Manages logistics such as facilities, tickets, concessions, caterers, vendors, event communications, and technical support for events. Works with speakers, vendors, and staff to ensure successful event execution. Manages communications across the event team, providing smooth and seamless event experiences.

Performs professional-level work that involves basic, operational problem-solving. Independently resolves day-to-day issues and executes clearly defined tasks. Provides data analysis and informational insights to support decision-making.

None; may assist with training student employees.

No budgetary responsibility. May be responsible for validating transactions.

Collaborates with peers and follows guidance from supervisor.



Physical Requirements

This role is primarily desk-based and involves extensive use of desktop computers. Occasionally, the job may require travel to attend meetings and programs.



Minimum Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and less than 3 years of related professional experience, or equivalent education and experience.



Preferred Qualifications

Experience with film projection, event management and production experience

Excellent computer and office skills.
