Director of Residential Services
Director of Residential Services
The Society | Medina County
Are you a leader who can build high performing teams, navigate regulatory complexity, and still keep people at the center of every decision?
The Society is seeking a Director of Residential Services to serve as a key member of our leadership team. The Society, founded in 1953, is a non-profit organization that partners with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This role is a strategic leadership opportunity for someone who understands how to align compliance, culture, operational systems, and census management into one cohesive, high functioning residential program.
If you are energized by leading complex systems in the intellectual and developmental disabilities field and believe strong leadership changes lives, we invite you to learn more.
About The Society
The Society advances opportunity, dignity, and quality of life for the individuals we serve. Our residential programs, camp services, and volunteer engagement efforts are central to that mission. We operate in a highly regulated environment and hold ourselves to standards that go beyond compliance. We are committed to clarity, collaboration, and operational excellence.
This role is based at our Main Office in Medina County with travel to residential sites and community meetings.
The Role
The Director of Residential Services provides strategic and operational oversight of:
• Residential Services
• Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professionals, QIDPs
• Operations Manager, Residential Services
• Camp and Volunteer Services
Reporting to the Associate Executive Director, this leader partners closely with agency leadership to ensure service quality, fiscal responsibility, regulatory integrity, and team performance.
This role requires both strategic oversight and hands on leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and Develop Teams
• Recruit, hire, and support QIDPs, the Operations Manager, and the Camp and Volunteer Coordinator
• Provide guidance in site level talent acquisition
• Establish succession and contingency plans to ensure leadership continuity
Strengthen Operations and Compliance
• Oversee residential census, referrals, admissions, discharges, and wait lists
• Use data, metrics, and workflow evaluation to assess and improve performance
• Maintain working knowledge of relevant regulatory bodies including DODD, ODM, ODJFS, ODH, and CMS
• Ensure consistent alignment with agency policies and regulatory standards
• Identify the need for new or revised policies and draft, update, and implement policies and procedures to ensure regulatory alignment and operational clarity
Support Fiscal Stewardship
• Partner with the Associate Executive Director to monitor residential, programmatic, and camp related fiscal performance
Model Culture and Communication
• Promote shared ownership, professional growth, and clarity of expectations
• Communicate with professionalism and consistency
• Represent The Society with credibility to internal and external stakeholders
Who You Are
You are a systems oriented leader and a people developer.
You are comfortable operating within regulated environments and translating requirements into clear operational practice. You understand that strong residential services depend on disciplined systems, clear expectations, and compassionate leadership.
You bring:
• A bachelor’s degree in a related field
• Five years of experience in developmental disabilities or three years supervising complex systems within the field
• Working knowledge of state and federal regulatory agencies
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Technical fluency and the ability to leverage software and reporting tools effectively
• A valid Ohio Driver’s License and required certifications
You take pride in building efficient workflows, strengthening processes, and creating operational clarity. You believe accountability is created through well designed systems, not micromanagement. You coach rather than control and lead with both structure and humility.
What Success Looks Like
• Residential census is strategically managed and aligned with capacity.
• QIDPs and managers experience consistent partnership, clear expectations, and structured development.
• Compliance reviews reflect preparation and operational discipline.
• Camp and volunteer services are well integrated.
• Leadership coverage is proactive and stable.
Physical and Environmental Expectations
The role includes standing, walking, sitting, driving, and occasional lifting up to 30 pounds. Work environments include office and residential settings. Personal protective equipment may be required as outlined in agency policies.
Why This Role Matters
The Director of Residential Services directly shapes quality of life for the individuals we serve. This leader influences team stability, service excellence, regulatory outcomes, and organizational strength.
If you are ready to lead with discipline and heart, we welcome your interest.
