Job Title: Quality Inspector Job Description
The Quality Inspector ensures that products meet strict dimensional and visual standards throughout all stages of production. This role conducts detailed inspections using precision measuring tools, documents results in quality systems, and supports continuous improvement of processes and equipment. The position operates in a heavy industrial forging environment and plays a key role in maintaining product integrity, safety, and compliance.
Responsibilities- Inspect products at various stages of production using visual and measurement tests to verify compliance with specifications.
- Verify that product tags accurately match the pieces being inspected and obtain all necessary inspection data from the shift foreman.
- Confirm and document all required inspection information, including MWF Part Print and related production documentation.
- Prepare, verify, and maintain calibration of all gaging and measuring tools used during the inspection process.
- Inspect products for dimensional compliance using gages, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring equipment, and identify visual defects such as cracks, pinches, and part number errors.
- Place non-conforming tags on discrepant parts and move them to designated quality hold areas for further disposition.
- Perform duties associated with scrap product, including identification, documentation, and handling according to procedures.
- Assist in the preparation of lab samples when required to support further analysis and testing.
- Document inspection results thoroughly, including rework, waste, and corrective actions, and input data into quality databases and reporting systems.
- Oversee the organization and maintenance of quality hold areas to ensure proper control of non-conforming material.
- Support Material Review Board (MRB) reviews by providing inspection data, observations, and recommendations.
- Recommend process improvements, gage replacements, or additional equipment to maintain and improve product quality standards.
- Support all aspects of the company’s quality assurance protocols, including calibration, documentation, and reporting requirements.
- Assist in training and guiding team members in quality control tasks, proper use of inspection tools, and adherence to quality procedures.
- Ensure effective communication between departments regarding quality issues, non-conformances, and process changes.
- Operate saws and other equipment to cut metal as needed to support inspection and production activities.
- Support machine operation and basic troubleshooting related to quality issues, including press brake and fabrication processes.
- Assist with machine setup activities to ensure equipment is properly configured to meet quality specifications.
- Safely operate industrial forklifts to move materials, parts, and products within the facility as needed for inspection and production.
- At least 1 year of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- At least 1 year of experience operating industrial forklifts.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds consistently in a heavy industrial setting.
- Hands-on experience with inspection of parts in a production environment.
- Proficiency using inspection gages, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and part prints for dimensional and visual inspection.
- Experience using inspection tools and measuring equipment to verify dimensional compliance.
- Ability to identify visual defects such as cracks, pinches, and incorrect part numbers.
- Basic understanding of extrusion and extrusion processes as they relate to part inspection.
- Ability to document inspection results accurately and enter data into quality databases.
- Capability to work all shifts as required in a unionized environment.
- Comfort working in a heavy industrial, non-temperature-controlled forging environment.
- Experience with caliper manufacturing or similar precision manufacturing environments.
- Background in operating saws and cutting metal in a production setting.
- Familiarity with press brake operation and fabrication processes.
- Experience with machine setup, including configuring equipment to meet quality requirements.
- Basic troubleshooting skills related to machine operation and quality issues.
- Prior experience supporting MRB reviews and quality hold area management.
- Experience assisting with training team members on inspection tools and quality procedures.
- Ability to recommend process improvements and equipment upgrades based on inspection findings.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with production, quality, and other departments.
- Comfort working in a sit-down role at times while performing inspection and documentation tasks.

Work EnvironmentThe role is based in a unionized, heavy industrial forging environment that is not temperature controlled, meaning conditions can be hot, noisy, and physically demanding. Candidates must be comfortable working in a robust manufacturing setting and handling metal components and equipment. The facility operates multiple shifts, and candidates must be open to working any shift as assigned. Standard shift schedules are: 1st shift from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., 2nd shift from 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and 3rd shift from 10:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Employees assigned to off shifts receive additional hourly shift differentials. Overtime applies to hours worked beyond 8 hours in a day, providing opportunities for additional income. The work involves operating and being around industrial equipment such as saws, presses, and forklifts, and requires consistent lifting of up to 50 pounds. Appropriate industrial attire and personal protective equipment are required to ensure safety in this heavy manufacturing environment.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cleveland, OH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $26.05 - $28.05/hr.
