Purpose of Your Job Position :
The primary purpose of your job position is to care for residents with impaired ability to perform at an independent level due to disease process, under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
Essential Functions:
- Ability to follow established performance standards and perform duties according to nursing service policies and procedures.
- Ability to assist new employees in following established facility policies and procedures.
- Ability to identify special resident problems and report them immediately to Charge Nurse
- Ability to provide direct resident care as assigned.
- Ability to initiate corrective action as necessary and/or seek assistance of Charge Nurse, Treatment Nurse or Nursing Supervisor.
- Ability to identify safety hazards and emergency situations, initiate the appropriate action within the scope of a STNA and to report to the Charge Nurse or Supervisor.
- Ability to participate in facility education programs as assigned.
- Ability to attend all classes as assigned and complete assignments
- Ability to assume personal responsibility for following facility procedures related to control of equipment and supplies within the unit
- Ability to assume accountability for compliance with federal, state and local regulations within the unit assigned and within his/her span of control
- Ability to report unusual problems or incidents to Charge Nurse or Supervisor.
- Ability to participate in resident care conferences and other facility meetings as assigned.
- Ability to participate in the development of an individualized plan of resident care for resident assigned
- Ability to report changes in resident’s condition to Change Nurse or Nurse Supervisor
- Ability to perform basic nursing skills as outlined in facility educational programs
- Ability to listen to resident and family complaints and report problems to Change Nurse
- Ability to control angry feelings
- Ability to answer call light
- Ability to give AM and PM care. Perform ADL’s. Give showers, baths and whirlpool. Ability to lift, turn and transfer residents. Ability to use the Hoyer Life per facility policy
- Ability to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner trays and assist the resident as needed
- Ability to change incontinent residents
- Ability to walk ambulatory residents
- Ability to complete tub baths, showers, bed baths and whirlpools
- Ability to report anything unusual about residents to Charge Nurse
- Ability to empty and record all urinary drainage units
- Ability to practice Infection Control procedures. Ability to report any Bloodborne Pathogen injuries top your supervisor immediately. Have knowledge of the location of the eye wash system
- Ability to follow Resident’s Rights policies at all times
- Ability to consistently work cooperatively with residents, charge nurses, treatment nurses, restorative assistance, other nursing assistance, physicians, families, consultant personnel, and ancillary service providers.
- Ability to observe all facility safety policies and procedures
- Ability to come to work in a clean, neat uniform, and consistency present a professional appearance
- Ability to come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrates dependability and punctuality
- Ability to accept assigned duties in a cooperative manner
- Ability to assume accountability for data contained in the employee’s handbook
- Ability to perform other related duties as directed by the Director of Nursing, Head Nurse, Supervisor and Charge Nurse.
- Ability to perform tasks/duties related to the shift you are working. Ability to make rounds at the first of your shift and at the end of you shift during change of shift
- Ability to report on time, receives report from the Charge Nurse, and asks questions concerning the care of the resident to assure follow through. Ability to report any change in condition, complaint, questions or concerns to the Charge Nurse regarding the resident
- Ability to give updated reports to the Charge Nurse concerning assigned residents throughout your shift
- Ability to report to the Charge Nurse concerning the resident eating less than 50% of their meals. Ability to chart intake and outputs for your shifts, BM’s and vital signs. Ability to take a Pulse Ox
- Ability to report any safety hazards noted. Ability to clean any spills noted or occurred by one self
- Ability to report any incident/accident, immediately to the Supervisor. Ability to follow Employee and Facility Incident and Accident policies and procedures. Ability to follow Safety Policies and Procedures
- Ability to follow all rules and statements regarding the Handbook
- Ability to change linen, as necessary. Ability to prepare residents for bed.
Marginal Functions:
- Ability to review care plans and perform nursing care as outlined.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
(With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
- Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.
- Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of twenty-five pounds.
- May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
