This is a part-time faculty pool for available assignments during the academic year. Applications are considered throughout the year and reviewed based on department need. Chemeketa Counseling Center is looking for an outstanding, student-centered, outreach counselor. Chemeketa Counselors provide short-term mental health, career, academic and crisis counseling services to students and also offers Counseling and Guidance courses. This position reports to the Associate Dean of Counseling & Student Support Services and is part of a team including other faculty members as well as other professional staff in Career Services and Basic Needs. The successful Counselor will maintain constant communication with the team while serving students at Chemeketa locations throughout the district. We are looking for counselors with a passion for and knowledge of multicultural awareness. We are looking for proactive counselors who model a high standard of ethical behavior, who are flexible commuting between outreach campuses, empathetic, caring and embrace adaptability in their profession who are excited to be part of the team of people who help students throughout their Chemeketa experience.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Counseling

  • Provides individual, personal, group and psychoeducational counseling services to students utilizing a solution based, short term model of delivery

  • Maintains current knowledge and skills in counseling and other relevant fields through regular participation in professional development activities with a commitment to lifelong learning

  • Comprehends and maintains current information concerning all college programs and services

  • Serves as liaison to assigned college departments, Chemeketa Pathways, and targeted programs

  • Utilizes excellent listening, written, and oral skills

  • Represents Counseling and Student Support Services on campus committees, task forces, and groups

  • Maintains college facilities and equipment

  • Keeps up to date on technological changes and developments in subject area

  • Attends staff meetings and participates in designated committee work; represents the department at pertinent meetings as required

  • Assists Advisory Committee as needed

  • Consults with faculty, staff and administrators regarding mental health and student retention

  • Maintains confidential counseling notes in keeping with current departmental guidelines and Counseling Ethical and Professional Standards

  • Assists with development, management and continued engagement in community resources

  • Delivers counseling in a variety of modalities to meet program and student needs including face-to-face, remote, hybrid, and/or online


Crisis Intervention

  • Provide crisis counseling and assessment for students in distress

  • Responds to students in crisis including on-call crisis support

  • Assesses suicidal risk and creates stabilization safety plans

  • Provides crisis intervention including referral and follow up

  • Consults with the Behavioral Intervention Team, Threat Assessment Team, Trauma Response Team and Title IX as needed

  • Serves on the Crisis Response Team

  • Collaborates with other counselors in creating plans around students with mental health concerns

  • Refers students to appropriate community resources and services

  • Maintains confidential files for all students seeking short-term crisis counseling


Academic and Career Counseling

  • Maintains caseload of assigned students who are undecided in their major or career choice

  • Maintains up to date career trends and job labor market information

  • Counsels and provides information to current students regarding Chemeketa lower division/transfer courses and programs; Chemeketa career/technical courses and programs; college transfer requirements, sources of information or referral resources; and assists students in understanding degree audits and academic progress toward completion

  • Counsels students in support of their career exploration and decision making, goal setting and achievement of academic goals

  • Supports student retention and success through counseling related to academic, career, and personal/social development

  • Administers and interprets a variety of career assessments

  • Counsels and supports students in resolution of personal and social issues that impact barriers to academic success

  • Provides comprehensive guidance and counseling services to students and prospective students, on a drop in, online, and/or appointment basis using a variety of computer software

  • Provides solution-focused interventions for students facing Academic Standing challenges


Teaching & Training

  • Develops, plans and implements workshops, training, events and classes related to mental health, career exploration and wellness district-wide

  • Teaches departmental courses (may include online) as assigned each term following approved course outlines as part of teaching workload

  • Understands, develops, and provides a learning environment that supports diversity and encourages sensitivity to diversity in all types of environments

  • Uses appropriate technology as instructional, communication and data gathering tools and integrates technology into curriculum and instruction

  • Meets all scheduled and special classes-day, possible evening and weekends

  • Provides students with course syllabi

  • Maintains records of grades and attendance; reports individual academic grades when required

  • Participates in curriculum development; recommends course outline revisions; prepares and develops materials for assigned classes

  • Recommends textbooks and other instructional materials and equipment; recommends library and reference materials

  • Develop, co-manage, and maintain internship program for students from partner institutions

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or equivalent discipline from an accredited institution

-AND-

At least two years of full-time equivalent experience providing mental health counseling. Internship/practicum experience may be considered.

-AND-

Experience providing academic and/or career development counseling.


Core Competencies
  • Demonstrated skills or training specifically focused on supporting the needs of students of color, students from indigenous communities, LGBTQIA+ students, international students, students from diverse religious affiliations, undocumented students, students with disabilities, first generation college students, and/or military veterans; evidence of knowledge of current personal, career, educational counseling techniques and trends and mental health issues

  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships and function as an effective and productive team member

  • Demonstrable experience providing culturally responsive instruction

  • Bicultural/multicultural skills sufficient to select appropriate behaviors, values and attitudes within different cultures during interactions with others

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in suicide prevention and/or crisis counseling

  • Demonstrated experience working with Veterans, LGBTQIA+, and BIPOC communities

  • Experience teaching in an educational setting within the last three years

  • Bilingual English/Spanish

  • LPC or LCSW Licensure, or equivalent licensure

  • Experience working in a higher education setting

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Even though weight lifted may be negligible, it may be rated light work if frequent walking and/or standing is required.

PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS

Chemeketa Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.
