SUMMARY:

The Prevention Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based prevention programs aimed at reducing the risk of substance abuse, behavioral health issues, and other high-risk behaviors in the community. This role involves direct outreach, education, collaboration with schools and community groups, and data collection for program evaluation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and facilitate substance abuse prevention and health promotion programs for youth, families, schools, and community organizations.
  • Conduct community outreach and build relationships with stakeholders, including schools, health providers, and civic groups.
  • Deliver presentations and workshops using evidence-based prevention curricula.
  • Assist with data collection, analysis, and reporting for grant compliance and program evaluation.
  • Maintain accurate records of all prevention activities and complete reports in a timely manner.
  • Participate in coalition meetings, community events, and awareness campaigns.
  • Monitor trends in substance use and emerging prevention strategies.
  • Advocate for prevention services and healthy behaviors within the community.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age with a High School Diploma or GED
  • Preferred: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, Education, or a related field (Bachelor’s preferred).
  • Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) credential preferred or ability to obtain certification within [12–24 months] of hire.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in prevention, health education, or related field.
  • Knowledge of substance abuse prevention theory, risk and protective factors, and behavioral health.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic data entry/reporting software.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
