Job Summary:
The Physician (Infectious Disease Focus) will provide comprehensive primary and specialty care services to adult patients with an emphasis on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases, including HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
This physician will serve as both a primary care provider and clinical leader in infectious disease management, supporting an integrated care model that addresses the medical and social needs of individuals experiencing homelessness, poverty, or other barriers to care. The physician will collaborate closely with the Chief Medical Officer and interdisciplinary teams to strengthen Care Alliance’s infectious disease services and community-based programming.
Competencies/Responsibilities: Include but are not limited to:
- Provide comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases, including HIV, Hepatitis C, and STIs.
- Serve as a medical expert and consultant to primary care teams regarding infectious disease management.
- Prescribe and manage complex treatment regimens, including antiretroviral therapy, Hepatitis C antivirals, and PrEP/PEP protocols.
- Supervise and collaborate with nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other members of the care team.
- Assist with the work of the Infection Prevention team, supporting infection control policies and outbreak response.
- Lead and participate in quality improvement initiatives related to infectious disease and infection prevention.
- Provide patient and community education on communicable diseases, prevention strategies, and treatment adherence.
- Support the development of protocols and best practices for HIV/HCV/STI testing and treatment in alignment with CDC and HRSA guidelines.
- Contribute to outreach-based clinical services, including mobile unit programming and partnerships with community organizations.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation in the electronic health record.
- Participate in continuing medical education and professional development activities to remain current in infectious disease care.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Required:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO).
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
- For Internal Medicine: fellowship training in Infectious Disease.
- For Family Medicine: completion of recognized additional training or certification in the management of people living with HIV/AIDS and/or Hepatitis C.
- Current Ohio medical license and DEA registration.
- Board certification (or eligibility) in Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine, or Family Medicine as appropriate.
- Demonstrated expertise in treating patients with HIV, Hepatitis C, and complex infectious diseases.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with underserved, homeless, LGBTQ+, multicultural, and diverse populations.
Preferred:
- Experience working in Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) or safety-net health systems.
- Experience or strong interest in providing infectious disease care in outreach and community-based settings.
- Prior experience collaborating with infection prevention teams.
