Position Overview
A well-established law firm is seeking a mid- to senior-level Intellectual Property Associate with a strong computer science or electrical engineering background. This role focuses on patent prosecution and intellectual property matters for technology clients, with particular emphasis on computer circuits, multiprocessor design, and telecommunications technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Interview inventors and prepare comprehensive patent applications
- Conduct all stages of US and foreign patent prosecution, including ex parte appeals
- Perform validity, infringement, and freedom to operate studies
- Prepare detailed legal opinion letters on IP matters
- Provide strategic legal counsel on patent, trademark, and copyright issues
- Collaborate on licensing negotiations and agreements
- Support intellectual property litigation matters as needed
- Work closely with partners and associates on complex case management
- Stay current with developments in IP law and contribute to firm knowledge base
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
- Two to five (2-5) years of patent prosecution experience
- Technical background with BS/MS degree preferred
- Computer science or electrical engineering background required
- Registered practitioner at US Patent and Trademark Office (or Patent Bar eligible)
- Strong legal research and writing capabilities
- Superior analytical and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with IP law and patent litigation procedures
