Electrical Field Service Technician – Critical Power Systems (UPS, ATS, Generators, Switchgear)
Location: Remote (U.S.)
Travel: 100% Monday-Friday travel throughout the United States. Technicians are expected to travel weekly to customer sites nationwide and are generally home on weekends.
About the Opportunity
A growing provider of critical power solutions is seeking an experienced Field Service Technician to support customers across the United States. This position is responsible for installing, commissioning, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing UPS systems, low- and medium-voltage power distribution equipment, switchgear, transformers, battery systems, and associated electrical controls .
This is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated technician who enjoys travel, solving technical challenges, and working directly with customers in mission-critical environments such as data centers, healthcare facilities, manufacturing plants, utilities, and industrial operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead field service projects and manage onsite activities independently.
- Install, commission, calibrate, maintain, and repair UPS systems and MV/LV electrical distribution equipment.
- Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues involving switchgear, breakers, transfer equipment, battery systems, transformers, alternators, wiring, control panels, and associated components.
- Perform preventive maintenance and emergency service to minimize customer downtime.
- Conduct root cause analysis on electrical and power system failures.
- Perform field inspections and support modular electrical equipment installations.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and construction drawings.
- Supervise equipment startup, commissioning, and integrated system testing.
- Verify installations comply with applicable electrical codes, standards, and project requirements.
- Coordinate equipment startup schedules with internal teams and customers.
- Prepare detailed service reports and recommend repairs, upgrades, and replacement parts.
- Serve as the primary technical contact for customers, providing clear communication and exceptional service.
- Support Engineering, Production, Sales, and Service teams with technical expertise.
- Mentor junior technicians when appropriate.
- Participate in a rotating emergency on-call schedule.
- Follow all company and customer safety procedures.
Qualifications
Required
- 2+ years of field service experience with one or more of the following:
- UPS systems
- Switchgear
- Power distribution equipment
- Transformers
- Generators
- Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
- Battery systems
- Experience working within one or more of these industries:
- Data Centers
- Critical Facilities
- Power Generation
- Utilities
- Oil & Gas
- Industrial Manufacturing
- Energy
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and one-line drawings.
- Experience using electrical test equipment including multimeters and related diagnostic tools.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office for service documentation and reporting.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to travel Monday through Friday every week throughout the United States.
- Clean criminal background
Preferred
- Technical degree or certificate in Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Electronics, or a related discipline.
- Experience servicing UPS equipment from major manufacturers.
- Experience working with low- and medium-voltage electrical distribution systems.
- Previous commissioning or startup experience.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Technical or vocational education preferred.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and work around energized electrical equipment.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing equipment.
- Willingness to work overtime as required, including occasional weekends or holidays during emergency service events.
