Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 16 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience required License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required, Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy preferred Must-Have: - Telemetry interpretation skills - Telemetry monitoring skills - Experience with administration of chemotherapy - Experience with blood product administration Description: This position focuses on medical oncology and benign hematology. Experience in oncology is preferred but not required. Staffing ratios aim for 1:4 but may reach 1:5. Weekend shifts will vary based on unit needs. There is no set or blocked scheduling. Self-scheduling requests can be submitted for preferred scheduling. The first week will consist of orientation during daytime hours, Monday through Friday. The second week involves 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor. Common patient diagnoses include subtypes of breast cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, colon cancer, and esophageal cancer. This unit cares for patients with solid tumors throughout their cancer journey. The role emphasizes infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention. Special equipment includes telemetry monitoring systems, bladder scanners, and infusion pumps. Experience in managing ports and central lines is required. Candidates must have experience with isolation precautions and management of dysrhythmias. Floating to other medical-surgical oncology units may be required. Please ensure awareness of the urgency in credentialing processes. References from two professional contacts are required, with at least one from a leadership position within nursing. Coworker references will not be accepted. Education must be from an accredited nursing program.
