Position Summary

The Distribution Center Operations Supervisor is responsible for leading warehouse and distribution team members within a fast-paced food distribution environment to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate daily operations. This role oversees staffing, productivity, inventory movement, shipping, receiving, and material handling operations while maintaining compliance with food safety, company, and regulatory standards. The position focuses on driving operational performance, team development, and continuous improvement initiatives that support customer service and supply chain objectives.

Primary Responsibilities

• Interview, train, develop, and maintain appropriate staffing levels to support daily warehouse and food distribution operational goals.
• Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, food safety standards, and operational best practices.
• Foster positive working relationships with team members and union representatives, where applicable, to promote engagement, retention, and a positive work environment.
• Cultivate a culture of teamwork, accountability, safety, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
• Establish and maintain distribution center performance metrics and KPIs related to productivity, safety, quality, service, and efficiency.
• Utilize operational data and reporting to identify opportunities for process improvement and enhanced warehouse performance.
• Train, coach, and lead work teams to achieve productivity, quality, cost, and customer service goals.
• Ensure team members safely operate material handling equipment, including conveyors, forklifts (Hi-Lo equipment), pallet jacks, and warehouse automation systems.
• Maintain knowledge of conveyor systems and Hi-Lo machinery to support operational troubleshooting and workflow efficiency.
• Monitor warehouse operations involving shipping, receiving, inventory movement, cold chain integrity, and storage configurations.
• Manage team member concerns, conduct investigations, and provide recommendations regarding corrective action in partnership with Human Resources and leadership.
• Monitor and track employee performance metrics while providing coaching, retraining, recognition, and disciplinary action as needed.
• Continuously evaluate warehouse and distribution processes and provide recommendations for operational and efficiency improvements.
• Perform administrative duties related to production, shipping, inventory accuracy, quality, and operational performance.
• Support compliance with OSHA, FDA, USDA, HACCP, GMP, SQF, and all applicable food distribution and workplace safety regulations.
• Work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays, as required to support business and operational demands.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Management, or related field preferred.

Experience

• 3+ years of leadership and/or warehouse management experience in food distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or distribution center operations required.
• Knowledge of conveyor systems, material handling equipment, and Hi-Lo/forklift machinery required.
• Experience in temperature-controlled or food-grade warehouse environments preferred.
• Proven analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong conflict resolution, coaching, and performance management experience.
• Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS) and distribution center KPI reporting preferred.
