Position Summary

The Opportunity: Skagit Valley College (SVC) is accepting applications for a part-time Mens Soccer Head Coach. This position leads the Mens Soccer program and works with the Athletic Director Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) Athletic Commissioners and campus departments. The Head Coach teaches soccer techniques for collegiate competition and ensures compliance with all NWAC rules and regulations in areas including but not limited to: fundraising recruiting eligibility schedules travel and preparing student athletes for competition. SVC is a member of the Northwest Athletic Conference and currently offers nine intercollegiate sports. Based on the candidates qualifications and available openings this role could potentially be combined with an overtime-exempt position.

Duties and Responsibilities

Head Coaching Leadership

  • Teach soccer techniques and skills at a level appropriate for collegiate competition;
  • Provide leadership to the Mens Soccer program conducting the program in accordance with the NWAC and college rules and regulations;
  • Serve as a role model to assist the team members in developing and displaying appropriate behavior and sportsmanship expected of athletic teams and individuals representing SVC;
  • Implement NWAC policies as defined in the official NWAC codebook.
Coaching & College/Community Relations
  • Promote SVC athletic programs in our community college district;
  • Collaborate with Athletic staff to foster partnerships between Mens Soccer and local and campus communities;
  • Represent the college at conference meetings;
  • Promote academics and involvement in the community.
Coaching Administrative Duties
  • Process institutional and conference paperwork and reports in a timely manner;
  • Develop and organize a comprehensive practice schedule;
  • Recruit student-athletes in accordance with college policies and Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) regulations;
  • Submit advance travel requests and secure lodging;
  • Assist in the purchase of appropriate supplies and equipment;
  • Fundraise to supplement the budget support and partner with the Athletics unit and its activities (including offering camps/clinics sports auction);
  • Develop a strategic plan for soccer to be highly competitive.
Other Related Duties
  • Support and monitor the academic progress of student-athletes;
  • Assist with the advising and registration of student athletes;
  • Participate in departmental meetings and communicate information to student-athletes in a timely manner;
  • Assist with and prepare the field for practices and games;
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates degree equivalent education or higher in Sports Science Physical Education Coaching or related Athletics field;
OR
  • Equivalent experience totaling two (2) years of successful coaching experience;
  • Successful collegiate-level soccer coaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Sports Science Physical Education Coaching or related Athletics field;
  • Experience recruiting athletes and retaining them through degree or transfer completion;
  • Competency and experience working in a diverse academic environment inclusive of students faculty and staff of varying social economic cultural ideological gender and racial/ethnic backgrounds and those with physical emotional and or learning disabilities;
  • Experience working closely with students to achieve their educational goals;
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.

Salary and Benefits:

  • The head coach stipend is $8630.00 for the season.
  • Potential earnings from Student Services position and state benefit package.
  • Contracts are written annually for the period of July 1 to June 30. This position will be filled as soon as practical after a candidate is identified and the salary will be pro-rated for the remaining contract period.
  • This position is exempt from the overtime pay requirements of The Fair Labor Standards Act and is civil service exempt.
  • Salary retirement medical and insurance benefits are provided in accordance with state regulations and may be subject to change in accordance with legislative mandates.
