Psychiatric RN Job Details

• Healthcare Setting: Inpatient Behavioral Health Float Pool
• Assignment Type: Locum tenens (travel nursing contract)

• End Date: January 19, 2026
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks
• Nursing Shift: 3x12-hour day shifts (07:00 – 19:30)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend
• Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics
• Unit Details: Float pool across four inpatient psychiatric units with varying acuity levels
• Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $1,870 - $1,920 per week

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Current and active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Ohio or compact state)
• Minimum 2 years of recent psychiatric nursing experience in an inpatient behavioral health setting
• Graduate of an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
• BLS certification required
• Proficiency with Epic electronic health record (EHR) system
• Ability to float between psychiatric units of equivalent or lower acuity
• Strong clinical skills in crisis intervention, de-escalation, and trauma-informed care
• First-time travel nurses are encouraged to apply

Psychiatric RN Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive psychiatric nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with diagnoses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, and dementia-related behavioral disturbances
• Administer psychiatric medications, including antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, and sedatives; monitor for side effects and therapeutic response
• Implement behavioral management, crisis intervention, and de-escalation strategies to ensure patient and staff safety
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including physical therapy, respiratory therapy, social services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams
• Participate in trauma-informed care, seclusion, and restraint protocols as necessary
• Float between four inpatient psychiatric units, adapting to varying acuity and unit specialties
• Educate patients and families on mental health topics, psychoeducation, and discharge planning
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation using the Epic EHR system
