Senior Embedded Software Engineer
Role Summary
The Senior Embedded Software Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining embedded firmware for our next-generation HVAC and IoT-connected products. This role will work closely with cross-functional teams (hardware, system, cloud, mobile app, testing) to deliver reliable, secure, and maintainable embedded software that meets global quality and regulatory standards.
You will act as a technical leader within the team—owning key modules, guiding junior engineers, and contributing to architecture and design decisions for new platforms and features.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and maintain embedded firmware in C/C++ for microcontroller-based systems (e.g. RL78, ARM Cortex-M, or similar).
Develop and integrate features related to HVAC control, communication interfaces, and IoT connectivity.
Work with RTOS-based environments (e.g. FreeRTOS or similar), including task design, scheduling, inter-task communication, and resource management.
Implement and debug communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I²C, CAN, Modbus, or proprietary protocols as required.
Collaborate with cloud and mobile application teams to define and implement data models and communication interfaces (e.g. MQTT, BLE/Wi-Fi provisioning).
Ensure code quality through code reviews, static analysis, unit tests, and integration tests.
Analyze and resolve complex firmware issues using debuggers, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and other tools.
Contribute to software architecture and design documentation, including interface specifications and design reviews.
Support system integration, field trials, and issue investigation with test engineering, production, and service teams.
Follow secure coding practices and support cybersecurity/compliance requirements for connected products.
Mentor and support junior engineers by providing technical guidance, reviewing code, and sharing best practices.
Participate in project planning, effort estimation, and risk identification for firmware development tasks.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
Typically 5+ years of experience in embedded software/firmware development.
Strong proficiency in C for embedded systems; experience with C++ is an advantage.
Hands-on experience with 8/16/32-bit microcontrollers (e.g. Renesas, STM32, NXP, or similar) and their toolchains (IAR, GCC, etc.).
Experience with RTOS (e.g. FreeRTOS or equivalent) and real-time embedded constraints.
Solid understanding of embedded software fundamentals: memory management, interrupts, timers, low-power modes, bootloaders, etc.
Proven experience in debugging embedded systems using JTAG/SWD debuggers and measurement tools.
Experience working in a structured software development process (version control, coding standards, code review, CI/CD) in a team environment.
Good written and spoken English for working with global teams and documenting technical information.
