Shift Front Line Manager - Fab / Welding - BWX Technologies, Inc. - Barberton, Ohio

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Manager to lead a team of Front Line Managers who oversee skilled trades employees in fabrication, fitting, welding, and assembly operations. This leadership role ensures consistent execution of daily operations across multiple departments and shifts, with a focus on safety, quality, and production efficiency. The position is primarily assigned to 2nd Shift but requires flexibility to move between shifts or work areas as needed to maintain seamless operational performance. Availability for scheduled overtime is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, coach, and develop Front Line Managers responsible for daily supervision of fitting, welding, assembly, and machining operations.

  • Ensure supervisors are effectively planning, directing, and coordinating work activities aligned with production goals.

  • Support supervisors in resolving complex or unusual shop-floor challenges and escalate issues as appropriate.

  • Maintain clear communication across all shifts, ensuring alignment on priorities, operating conditions, and potential risks.

  • Oversee workload scheduling across shifts and departments to maximize labor utilization and meet established priorities.

  • Provide direction when supervisors need support navigating scheduling, personnel issues, or cross-department coordination.

  • Recommend improvements to shop processes, equipment needs, operating procedures, and workflow efficiencies.

  • Ensure supervisors maintain compliance with safety standards, quality requirements, and company policies.

  • Promote a continuous improvement mindset and foster a positive, inclusive, high-performance culture.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably overseeing supervisors in a unionized environment.

  • Strong working knowledge of fabrication processes; experience in heavy fabrication, fitting, or welding is preferred.

  • Technical knowledge equivalent to a four-year apprenticeship or two years of college/technical training.

  • Proven leadership, communication, and coaching skills, with the ability to develop and support new or entry-level supervisors.

  • Must be available for scheduled overtime.

Pay: $[[cust salaryMin]] - $[[cust salaryMax]]

The base salary range for this position in [[stateProvince]] at the start of employment is expected to be between $[[cust salaryMin]] and $[[cust salaryMax]] per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,' unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
