Summary: Since 1912, The Music Settlement (TMS) has been open to everyone wanting to learn, create, celebrate, and heal with music. Through our three centers—Center for Music (CFM), Center for Early Childhood (CEC), and Center for Music Therapy (CMT)—and Bop Stop performance venue, we provide accessible, life-enhancing music and arts experiences to people of all ages and abilities. We deliver music and arts programming that reflects the diverse needs of Greater Cleveland and serve more than 9,000 members of our community each year.
Position Title: Instructor
Classification: Part Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt
Reports To: Chair, Center for Music
Location: TMS University Circle and Ohio City Campuses
Start Date: Instruction begins August 31, 2026
Responsibilities:
Provide high-quality music instruction to students of all ages and skill levels
Customize teaching approaches to accommodate diverse learning styles and goals
Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, administrative staff, and colleagues
Participate in faculty meetings, student recitals, and occasional community engagement activities
Maintain accurate student attendance records and uphold administrative expectations of TMS concerning student scheduling and billing procedures
Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and inspiring learning environment in accordance with The Music Settlement’s policies and instructional values
Maintain on-site availability for afternoon and evening hours for individual lessons, and Tuesday evenings for Suzuki group classes
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in music or related field required; Master’s or equivalent professional experience preferred.
Qualifications:
At least one year of previous teaching experience required; previous teaching experience in a community music school setting preferred
Registered Suzuki training through Book 3 preferred; commitment to pursue additional training (with financial assistance) in the future
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Compensation: $40.00–$46.66 per hour for individual instruction determined by education and experience; $42.00–52.50 per session for Suzuki group classes based on weekly contact hours.
