Job Description

This role focuses on installing ductwork and sheet metal on large industrial projects, with a strong emphasis on HVAC systems such as rooftop units, curb installations, and various duct configurations. You will interpret blueprints, lay out and install sheet metal and duct systems, and support the assembly of HVAC equipment while maintaining high safety and quality standards. Travel opportunities are available, and per-day travel compensation is provided for days worked.

Responsibilities

  • Lay out and install sheet metal and duct systems on industrial construction projects.
  • Install and set rooftop units (RTUs), curb units, louvers, hangers, and associated HVAC components.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and specifications to determine accurate locations for curbs, ductwork, sheet metal, and rooftop equipment.
  • Assist with the assembly and installation of HVAC equipment, including ductwork, rooftop units, curbs, louvers, and hangers.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working order, performing proper and timely maintenance as needed.
  • Follow all OSHA and company safety standards at all times on the job site.
  • Offload deliveries and load trucks at job sites, ensuring materials are handled safely and efficiently.
  • Use appropriate hand and power tools, including impact drills and sockets, to complete installations and adjustments.
  • Coordinate with site teams to ensure installations meet project specifications and timelines.
  • Support rigging activities related to lifting and setting rooftop equipment and large duct sections.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of experience installing louvers, setting rooftop equipment, rigging, and working with ductwork and sheet metal.
  • Proficiency in installing and setting rooftop units (RTUs), curb units, and various sizes of ductwork.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications to determine installation locations for curbs, ductwork, sheet metal, and rooftop units.
  • Experience hanging ducts, installing sheet metal, and setting rooftop units on industrial projects.
  • Knowledge of HVAC installation practices, including ductwork layout and equipment placement.
  • Understanding and adherence to OSHA safety standards on construction and industrial sites.
  • Ability to maintain tools and equipment in safe, reliable working condition.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle for travel to job sites.
  • Ability to pass standard drug screening and bckgd checks, as required for site access.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • OSHA 10 certification or higher, or the ability to obtain this certification before starting.
  • Journeyman card in a relevant trade is preferred.
  • Experience working on long-term industrial and hospital-related construction projects.
  • Comfort with rigging practices for setting rooftop equipment and heavy components.
  • Ownership of essential hand tools, including wrenches, pliers, channel locks, vice grips, impact drill, 9/16" sockets with impact adapter, and screwdrivers.
  • General HVAC knowledge and experience supporting HVAC installation teams.
  • Ability to work overtime, including early morning shifts and weekend hours, as project needs require.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Work Environment

Work takes place on industrial and healthcare-related construction sites, including tower and hospital facilities, where safety and precision are critical. The typical schedule runs Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and Sunday from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., offering substantial overtime potential. Technicians work both indoors and outdoors in active construction environments, using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and rigging equipment to install sheet metal and HVAC systems. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times, and adherence to OSHA safety standards is strictly enforced. The role involves physical activity such as lifting, climbing, and working at heights, and requires reliable transportation to reach job sites.

This is a Contract position based out of Columbus, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
