Position Summary

The Education and Prevention Specialist plays a crucial role in our efforts to prevent sexual violence, human trafficking, and the intersections with intimate partner violence, educate the community, and support survivors. This position is responsible for implementing educational programs, outreach initiatives, and awareness campaigns aimed at reducing sexual violence, human trafficking and the intersections with intimate partner violence, as well as promoting a culture of consent and healthy relationships. The Education and Prevention Specialist will work collaboratively with community partners, schools, and organizations to deliver impactful prevention and education programs.

Required Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Four-year degree in communication, public relations, social work, education, or related field of social services preferred; or relevant experience.
  • Victim advocacy training and/or experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of sexual assault, intimate partner violence and human trafficking prevention, trauma-informed care, and related issues.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse communities and organizations.
  • Sensitivity to issues related to sexual assault and a commitment to the mission of the organization.
  • Maintain valid Ohio driver’s license and ability to meet agency requirements for driving insurability.
  • Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal background check (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Federal Bureau of Investigations).

Role and Responsibilities

  • Create age-appropriate, evidence-based educational programs on sexual assault prevention, consent, human trafficking, and healthy relationship skills.
  • Provide training and workshops for professionals and community members on recognizing and responding to sexual assault, human trafficking, and intimate partner violence including local schools, colleges, and community organizations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners, including juvenile court and detention center, law enforcement, healthcare providers, and social service agencies.
  • Represent the organization at community events, conferences, and meetings to promote awareness and resources.
  • Offer support and resources to survivors who may meet the organization during outreach events.
  • Collect and maintain accurate records of outreach activities, program outcomes, and demographic information.
  • Represent the organization by participating in community activities, coalitions and taskforce groups as requested or assigned by supervisor.
  • Complies with agency policies and procedures, federal and state requirements, CARF Standards and educational/certification/registry requirements including the Service Excellence standards.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Physical demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; step up and down; stoop, kneel, crouch; talk, hear and drive. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Work environment : This position will be in a facility with victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking. In addition to interaction with the survivors, the employee may have interactions with families of these individuals, the assailants and law enforcement.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

  • 40 hours/week
  • Hours vary depending on need, evenings and weekends as needed

Monday to Friday, normal business hours with flexibility for nights and weekends.
