Reinsurance Analyst

: Overview: Processes, audits, tests and reports for reinsurance activity for Western & Southern Life, Columbus Life, Lafayette Life and IFS. This includes monthly billing in excess of $8 million. Actively collaborates with multiple reinsurers and the Claim Department to collect over $100,000,000 in outstanding receivables. Directly communicates with reinsurers to address outstanding administration concerns. Ensures appropriate reinsurance accounting in the general ledger. Responsibilities: What you will do:
  • Processes weekly transactions for multiple business units; researches administrative system for further policy information when needed.
  • Works with Information Technology and Insurance Operations to test accuracy and proper treaty administration for over 100 treaties.
  • Monitors recoverable amounts to ensure prompt payment. Contacts reinsurance partners, and works with internal Claim Department to complete monthly and annual claim reporting.
  • Monitors retention on a regular basis, also reviews monthly reports, and executes recapture as necessary.
  • Participates in reinsurance administration audits with internal auditors as well as external reinsurance companies and independent auditors. Provides procedural overview, gathers data and provides information requested. Performs detailed policy-level audits as appropriate to respond to questions and inquiries.
  • Researches and interprets treaty language to ensure policies are administered according to guidelines.
  • Audits and prepares payment of Underwriting vendor invoices.
  • Acts as a liaison to resolve billing disputes, obtain appropriate documentation and achieve resolution. Identifies and reports aberrations to management as appropriate.
  • Works with internal customers and external vendors to resolve problems and promote quality issues.
  • Prepares information for annual DAC tax.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED - Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, business, math or finance - Preferred
  • Proven experience adapting and demonstrating flexibility associated with changes to policies/procedures - Required
  • Demonstrated experience effectively handling customers and providing excellent service - Required
  • Previous TAI experience - Preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of back-office life insurance operations. - Preferred
  • Proven ability to understand and execute testing methodologies associated with new product/treaty implementation, program changes and technical/software upgrades. - Preferred
  • Proven strong analytical skills, including demonstrated experience identifying and quantifying problems and providing effective resolutions. - Required
  • Proven examples of working under multiple deadlines with minimal supervision. Must cite examples of successfully organizing and effectively completing projects where given little or no direction. - Required
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to convey information to internal and external customers in a clear, focused and concise manner. - Preferred
  • Proven ability to cite examples of experience working in an environment with a high degree of demands associated with heavy volumes and multiple demands. - Required
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills. Cite examples of organization and time management methods used to manage or prioritize workload demands. - Required
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products. - Preferred
  • SQL querying capabilities. - Preferred
  • Pursuit of FMLI designation - Preferred
Work Setting/Position Demands:
  • Works in an office setting and remains in a stationary position for long periods of time while working at a desk, on a computer or with other standard office equipment, or while in meetings.
  • Requires the ability to verbally communicate and exchange accurate information to customers and associates on a regular basis.
  • Requires visual acuity to read and interpret a variety of correspondence, procedures, reports and forms via paper and electronic documents, visual inspection involving small defects; small parts, and/or operation of machinery (including inspection); using measurement devices continuously. Visual acuity is required to determine accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned.
  • Requires the ability to prepare written correspondence, reports and forms using prescribed formats and conforming to rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style on a regular basis.
  • Requires the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Performs substantial movement of wrists, hands, and fingers for continuous computer work.
  • Extended hours required during peak workloads or special projects/events.
