Software Development Manager, Device OS
Amazon Lab126 is an inventive research and development company that designs and engineers high-profile consumer electronics. The Software Development Manager will be part of the Fire OS organization and will be responsible for development teams for Fire OS devices. Fire OS (based on Android) is used across a wide family of Amazon devices including Tablets TV and exciting new array of products that are under development. As a Software Development Manager you will be responsible for hiring and leading a team of engineers developing software for FireOS based this position you will partner with product teams project managers and other internal stakeholders. This hands-on position requires broad engineering competence distributed system expertise and a good understanding of the system (including low level). In addition it will require demonstrated experience successfully planning organizing and conducting software development projects in a dynamic environment.
As a Software Development Manager you will build and lead a diverse team of engineers to solve complex technical problems that will enable us launch innovative experiences/devices faster and delight our this position you will partner with an assorted set of stakeholders primarily tech leaders in the devices business like Tablets AppStore Echo to highlight our strategic initiatives in the device solutions space and make them feel compelled to use our solutions in their products. You will influence the roadmap and technology decisions that will drive the adoption of our solutions. You will have a strong focus on keeping the operational excellence bar high while managing these solutions through defining key business metrics and auditing them regularly.

In this role you will:
* Work with Product Management & cross organizational teams to build integrate and ship solutions at scale
* Establish structures that enable your team to solve complex problems and build innovative solutions
* Provide hands-on tech leadership to team
* Instill best practices for software development and documentation assure designs meet requirements and deliver high-quality work on tight schedules
* Manage team priorities hiring mentoring and continuous performance evaluation
* Report on status of development quality and operations to management - 7 years of leading development of applications backed by AWS services or using other cloud based technologies and services experience
- 3 years of engineering team management experience
- 8 years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing certification and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience with development in a distributed systems environment - Experience in communicating with users other technical teams and senior leadership to collect requirements describe software product features technical designs and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting hiring mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills and make them more effective product software engineers

The base pay for this position ranges from $166400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered equity sign-on payments and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits.
