Position Overview
A well-established, multi-practice law firm in Cleveland, Ohio is seeking a Trust & Estate Associate Attorney with 3–5 years of experience to join its growing Estate Planning and Probate practice group. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with partners and clients on sophisticated estate planning matters, trust administration, and probate proceedings while developing strong client relationships within the community.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and confident managing files independently while collaborating within a team-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft and review comprehensive estate planning documents, including wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, and advanced tax planning instruments
- Advise clients on wealth preservation, business succession planning, and asset protection strategies
- Handle probate and trust administration matters from inception to closing
- Prepare and review fiduciary accountings
- Assist with estate and gift tax returns, and coordinate with accountants and financial advisors
- Conduct legal research related to estate, trust, and tax matters
- Represent fiduciaries and beneficiaries in probate court proceedings
- Maintain direct client communication and manage deadlines effectively
- Collaborate with attorneys across other practice areas including business, real estate, and litigation
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- 3–5 years of experience in estate planning, trust administration, and probate
- Licensed and in good standing with the Ohio Bar
- Strong understanding of Ohio probate procedures and estate tax principles
- Experience drafting sophisticated estate planning documents
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple matters independently
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and client service
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with estate and fiduciary income tax returns
- Exposure to business succession planning
- LL.M. in Taxation (preferred but not required)
- Experience using estate planning and practice management software
