Wastewater Operator 1

The Wayne County Commissioners are currently accepting applications for this full-time position. A Wastewater Operator 1 license is required.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Conducts routine sampling and monitoring of plant through the checking of flow readings; collecting samples for testing; recording effluent color, odor, and turbidity; checking influent and effluent temperatures; performing influent/effluent pH analysis; measuring effluent dissolved oxygen; etc. Communicates with and relays information to both staff and the general public in a courteous and helpful manner.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance on plants by lubricating blowers, pumps, motors, rotor bearings; checking belts and air filters; maintaining comminutor/screening equipment, chlorine/de-chlorination system; cleaning chemical feeder pumps; calibrating colorimeters, pH meters, flow meters; pumping trash and grease traps; inspecting treatment process tanks and diffusers in aeration tanks, etc.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance on collection system by inspecting lift stations, manholes, wet wells and dry wells; lubricating motors and compressors; addressing odor problems; maintaining level controls and air release valves; performing camera inspections; conducting smoke and dye tests; OUPS locates, etc.
- Meet all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- CDL with tanker endorsement preferred (or willing to obtain)
- Able to: lift 50 lbs.; work in environments that are hot, cold and noisy; walk, stand, stoop, lift, bend and reach; take written and verbal instruction
- Self-starter
