Business Development Representative - Skill Education

SUMMARY The Business Development Representative engages students, instructors, and guidance counselors at high schools and vocational training centers to promote the Institute's post-secondary welder training programs and sell curriculum products and testing services within their designated territory. In addition to focusing on sales at the secondary education level, the Business Development Representative also conducts outreach and recruitment efforts for veterans interested in the Institute's post-secondary programs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Drive sales initiatives and strategies for HIWT curriculum, high school welding qualification products, instructor continuing education courses, and other HIWT product offerings, to achieve desired sales results.
- Work with department manager to develop and execute an annual sales plan, ensuring key metrics and goals established align with the strategic objectives of the organization.
- Present approved sales presentations to students at high schools and Career Centers, about career opportunities in welding and encourage students to attend HIWT.
- Ensure all verbal and written communications about the school are compliant according to state and accreditation regulations.
- Coordinate and establish relationships with welding instructors and guidance counselors at high schools, career centers, and local community groups to promote the Institute.
- Coordinate visits and establish relationships with One Stop Centers and Veterans/Military Centers and other veteran groups.
- Represent HIWT at college/career fairs, trade events, and other functions as assigned.
- Schedule travel and school visits with a focus on efficiency and schedule maximization.
- Responsible for completing all sales quoting activities that support the product portfolio for the Skill Education portion of the business, in assigned geographic territory.
- Perform follow-up calls to leads received by HIWT in assigned geographical territory.
- Complete routine reporting activities including tracking various sales metrics, expense reports, school visit logs and others.
- Utilize provided software and technology to perform job-related activities.
- Update daily and weekly schedule on Outlook calendar ensuring a minimum of a two-week rolling calendar.
- Responds to Career Development team phone calls and emails related to role .
- Assist marketing and social media team in identifying strategic content.
- All other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Bachelor's degree in business or related field. Combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree.
- 7-10 years of experience in sales relating to skilled trades.
- Willingness to learn welding skills if necessary and ability to effectively present welding knowledge.
- Able to build strong relationships with internal and external customers.
- Must have an acceptable driving record & comply with company vehicle driving policies.
- Knowledge of skilled trades industry.
- Comfortable speaking and presenting to vast audiences. Able to communicate effectively and clearly.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and technology in general.
- Must be organized and detail oriented.
- Able to adapt and learn quickly.
- Can prioritize multiple assignments and time constraints.
- Willingness to learn other job functions.
- Understand basic mathematics.
- Able to work remotely if required.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Knowledge in coordinating recruitment efforts targeting high school and vocational students.
- Experience in education.
- Hobart Institute of Welding Technology graduate.
- 3-5 years of welding experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS - Must register with the Ohio State Board of Career Colleges and Schools (no criminal or drug related offenses.)
- Valid driver's license.
TRAVEL This position requires 50%-75% travel during the week, with up to 60% out-of-state travel. Out-of-state travel is typically within 350 miles of the school. Some overnights and weekends are required. Majority of travel occurs within a typical academic year (August - May). Business Development Representatives are responsible for scheduling their own visits to high schools, Career Centers, One Stop Centers, and Veterans/Military Centers, allowing for travel and schedule flexibility. Additional travel for tradeshows and other organization events may also be required, with travel and schedule set by the Institute. The Institute may require specific times when Business Development Representatives must be on campus for various on-site events, trainings, or other activities. PHYSICAL DEMANDS - Routine standing and walking required.

- Able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT This role primarily operates in a professional office or school environment, with travel for outreach purposes. Travel involves extensive driving and occasional air travel. Individuals in the role will also have routine exposure to classroom settings and welding lab environments.
