Job Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead the mechanical engineering function in our medium voltage switchgear division. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical knowledge of switchgear design, a passion for mentoring engineers, and a strong understanding of industry standards and requirements.
Job Duties:
- Lead and manage the mechanical engineering team in the design and development of medium voltage switchgear products.
- Translate single-line and three-line electrical drawings into mechanical layouts, including 3D renderings and detailed side views.
- Ensure all mechanical designs meet clearance requirements and functional specifications across various voltage levels.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical engineering, manufacturing, and product management teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards including ANSI, ASME, NEC, and UL.
- Drive continuous improvement in mechanical design processes, tools, and documentation.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning, collaboration, and technical excellence.
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical oversight throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Maintain responsibility of Engineering schedule and KPI's
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field required
- 8+ years of experience in mechanical design of medium voltage switchgear is required
- Proficient in interpreting and working from single line and three-line diagrams required
- Proven understanding of electrical clearance requirements at various voltage levels required
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written required
- Background in manufacturing or industrial environments required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong expertise in 3D CAD tools: AutoCAD and SolidWorks experience preferred
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements (ANSI, ASME, NEC, UL) preferred
- Prior leadership or team management experience is highly preferred
· Experience in Lean/Six sigma preferred
- Experience with design for manufacturability and cost optimization preferred
- Exposure to switchgear testing and validation processes preferred
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop engineering talent preferred
- Prior leadership or team management experience is highly preferred
