Configuration Management Analyst
- Configuration Management System Development and Maintenance
- Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s Configuration Management Plan (CMP) in accordance with program requirements, DoD standards, and applicable contract data item descriptions (CDRLs).
- Define configuration management policies, procedures, and tools to ensure consistency and compliance across hardware, software, and documentation.
- Establish and manage configuration identification baselines (functional, allocated, product).
- Configuration Identification and Control
- Assign and maintain configuration item (CI) identifiers, part numbers, and document control numbers.
- Establish and maintain baseline control for all program hardware, software, and documentation.
- Administer the Engineering Change Control (ECC) and Change Control Board (CCB) processes, ensuring proper review, approval, and implementation of all configuration changes.
- Verify that proposed changes are properly evaluated for technical, cost, and schedule impact prior to approval.
- Configuration Status Accounting
- Maintain complete and accurate records of configuration data, including baselines, approved changes, and release documentation.
- Ensure traceability of all configuration changes from initial identification through final implementation.
- Prepare and deliver required configuration status accounting (CSA) reports and documentation to internal stakeholders and Government representatives.
- Configuration Audits and Verification
- Plan, coordinate, and support configuration audits — including Functional Configuration Audits (FCA) and Physical Configuration Audits (PCA) — in collaboration with Engineering, Quality, and Program Management.
- Verify that product design, documentation, and production outputs are consistent with approved baselines and specifications.
- Support Government and customer audits of configuration documentation and data repositories.
- Data and Document Management
- Control the creation, review, approval, release, and distribution of technical data, drawings, and software documentation.
- Maintain the configuration management database or digital repository (e.g., PLM, ALM, or CM tool) to ensure configuration data accuracy and accessibility.
- Ensure all configuration data and deliverables comply with applicable Data Item Descriptions (DIDs), Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs), and cybersecurity/ITAR requirements.
- Supplier and Subcontractor Configuration Oversight
- Ensure configuration requirements are flowed down to suppliers and subcontractors.
- Review subcontractor configuration management procedures and data submissions for compliance with program requirements.
- Integrate subcontractor configuration data into the program’s master configuration database and baseline.
- Continuous Improvement and Risk Mitigation
- Identify opportunities for process improvement within CM workflows, documentation control, and data integrity.
- Participate in internal process reviews and quality improvement initiatives to strengthen CM practices.
- Assess risks to configuration integrity and implement mitigation strategies to maintain data and product traceability.
- Thorough understanding of configuration management principles, processes, and best practices across hardware and software systems.
- Working knowledge of DoD and industry configuration standards such as MIL-HDBK-61A, EIA-649, and ISO 10007.
- Experience implementing and managing CM tools (e.g., SolidWorks PDM, Windchill, PTC Integrity, JIRA, DOORS, Git, or equivalent).
- Strong analytical, documentation, and organizational skills with attention to detail and traceability.
- Ability to interface effectively with engineering, quality assurance, program management, suppliers, and customers.
- Familiarity with document control practices, data management, and technical data package (TDP) requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of reports, plans, and CDRL deliverables.
- Willing to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplined environment, engaging and collaborating with multiple key stakeholders on a regular basis.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 8+ years of experience in configuration management, data management, or related engineering disciplines in a defense, aerospace, or government contracting environment.
- Experience supporting Government programs requiring configuration control of hardware and software baselines.
- Familiarity with systems engineering processes, design documentation, and product lifecycle management.
- Preferred: Certification in configuration management (e.g., CMII, CMPIC, or NDIA certification).
