The

Oregon Legislature

is seeking several limited-duration Session Committee Assistants to support the 2026 Legislative Session. These roles offer a unique front row seat to the legislative process and an opportunity to serve in a fast-paced, nonpartisan environment.

About the Role

Session Committee Assistants provide neutral, nonpartisan logistical and administrative support to committees staffed by:

  • Legislative Fiscal Office

    (LFO)
  • Legislative Revenue Office

    (LRO)
  • Legislative Policy and Research Office

    (LPRO)

These are limited duration, full-time positions, onsite in Salem, Oregon, beginning in January 2026 and ending as committee work closes in early March.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acquire and develop a basic understanding of the legislative process
  • Deliver excellent customer service to elected officials, staff, stakeholders, and the public
  • Create meeting agendas using proprietary software
  • Operate and monitor meeting recording systems; create accurate meeting logs
  • Prepare meeting rooms and facilitate public participation during in-person and virtual meetings (via MS Teams)
  • Record motions/votes, draft committee reports, and handle confidential documents according to legislative procedure and policies
  • Draft and edit committee documents and correspondence clearly and concisely
  • Create and maintain electronic committee files in accordance with Oregon public records law

What We’re Looking For

Skills and Experience

  • Experience prioritizing multiple tasks and working efficiently within tight deadlines
  • Excellent organizational, customer service, and communication skills with a high attention to detail
  • Ability to stay nonpartisan, maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion, and remain professional
  • Experience using MS Teams and other video conferencing tools
  • Proficiency with Windows 11 (MS Word and Outlook) and an ability to quickly learn internal systems and software
  • Previous legislative experience preferred

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other committee staff with limited direct supervision

Additional Requirements

  • Availability to work long, irregular hours, including evenings and some weekends during the legislative session, if needed.
  • Must be an Oregon resident or willing to relocate to Oregon.
  • Must be able to work onsite in Salem.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate’s degree, AND
  • One (1) year of clerical/secretarial experience performing typing and word processing functions, providing customer/client service, and providing clerical coordination for a project, program, or organization

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position. An additional degree may substitute for one year of experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business management, or political science
  • Understanding of, or experience with, the legislative process

SPECIAL INFORMATION:

  • Over the next two years, the Capitol Building will be undergoing extensive renovation and construction projects which may limit accessibility to employees. This will require Legislative employees to work both from home and within the building as the construction project dictates. While working from home, personal, stable and high-speed internet access will be required to perform the functions of this position. There may be occasions that require employees scheduled to be working from home, to report to the Capitol or an offsite building. Every effort will be made to provide reasonable notice. However, employees may be required to report to the building under short notice. The Capitol building is located at 900 Court Street NE, Salem, OR 97301.

  • The salary in this job posting reflects the base salary without contributions to the Public Employee Retirement System (PERS). Employees eligible for PERS will have their salary increased by 6.95% and 6% will be automatically be subject to a mandatory employee contribution to PERS.
