Co-Op/Intern 2 (BUDGET)
Interns/Co-ops/Externs for the City of Cincinnati may be performing duties in any potential field within the City’s structure. These fields may include office level work/assignments, field work, and/or civic services. The nature of the work will be based on areas of interest, degree program, or organizational need. Candidates should have the ability to multitask in a fast-pace environment.
SPECIFIC STATEMENT OF DUTIES Project Descriptions And Deliverables The Summer 2026 Internship opportunity in the Office of Budget and Evaluation will provide a unique experience to a student interested in learning and mentorship from Budget Office staff. The student will ultimately be responsible for contributing to the following projects and associated work products. Revamping the Performance Measures Section in the City’s Budget Documents. This opportunity will involve assessing the City’s current performance measures presentation in the City’s budget document and making recommendations to revamp the section. This project would also entail reviewing other major cities’ performance measures reporting. Much like the typical experience of a full-time Budget Analyst, this assignment will require engaging with the Office of Performance and Data Analytics to conduct this research. Assisting with the City’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Recommended Budget Update process, including conducting research, attending public budget hearings, and providing general support to budget ordinance development and other sundry tasks. Assisting with the development and publication of the City's Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Approved All Funds Budget Update documents. This experience will provide a broad view of the City's organizational structure, an introduction to how municipal governments in Ohio develop and approve the annual budget, as well as the City’s process of determining funding prioritization through the allocation of limited resources. The deliverables would be in the form of contributions to the City’s FY 2027 Approved All Funds Budget Update and Budget-in-Brief documents. This project may also involve developing a Budget Infographic and implementing accessibility enhancements to the budget documents. Examples Of Work Performed Any one position within this classification may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all of the tasks which may be performed.- We have had interns working on shooting video for training DVD’s for the 2012 World Choir Games.
- Interns have taken part in labor negotiations, and developing Fire Mentor Program curriculum.
- Answer questions and complaints on the phone or in person (e.g., gives directions, explains rules, describes fees, etc.).
- Greets visitors or agency employees; gives directions and/or provides information in person or takes visitors to various locations.
- Makes telephone calls or visits to get needed information or solve problems for the agency, clients, patients, or other visitors.
- Revises or updates forms and prepares rosters, inventories, and/or mailing lists.
- Files and retrieves materials, establishing new file categories and transfers or destroys outdated material according to guidelines.
- Keeps files of confidential or restricted information.
- Estimates supply and equipment needs; handles the distribution of office supplies and equipment.
- Perform simple typing on a computer.
- Under the supervision of a professional, incumbent may perform project activities associated with field work, such as engineering, sanitation, heavy equipment operation, plant operations, water treatment, etc.
In order to qualify for the Intern/Co-op/Extern Program, a student must:
- Be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident
- Individuals under eighteen will require a work permit
- Be enrolled in an accredited institution
- Submit a City job application for employment
