Miami University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Music Education to join an evolving music program committed to excellence in teaching, collaborating, and innovation.

The successful candidate will:
  • Teach undergraduate music education courses as assigned, including foundational coursework such as Introduction to Music Education and instrumental method courses
  • Additional courses outside of the area of music education may be assigned based on departmental priorities and the candidate's expertise and interests
  • Supervise student teachers and coordinate clinical experiences in public school settings
  • Advise undergraduate students and contribute to a supportive learning environment
  • Serve as faculty advisor for the Collegiate NAfME chapter
  • Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair

Miami University's music program is undergoing exciting growth, including the launch of a Bachelor of Arts in Music Industry with tracks in Music Production and Music Business. The College of Creative Arts at Miami University is a dynamic, interdisciplinary community encompassing departments in art, architecture and interior design, emerging technology in business and design, music, and theatre, alongside a vibrant ecosystem of centers and institutes including the Institute for Innovation in Arts and Design, Fashion Institute, Armstrong Institute for Emerging Technology, and the Center for Community Engagement in Over-the-Rhine (Cincinnati), as well as the Richard and Carole Cocks Art Museum and a nationally recognized Performing Arts Series. The college takes an innovative, career-focused approach that integrates emerging technologies, entrepreneurship, and experiential learning. Through industry partnerships and cross-disciplinary collaboration, CCA prepares graduates to lead in the creative industries.

Minimum Qualifications

Master of Music or Master of Music Education by date of appointment

Consideration may be given to candidates with:
  • Doctorate in Music Education (ABD candidates will be considered)
  • Demonstrated success teaching music education at the collegiate level
  • Experience with curriculum development or program coordination
  • A student-centered approach to teaching and mentoring
  • Minimum of three years of successful K-12 instrumental teaching experience
