Job Title: Industrial Maintenance Technician
Job Description

This role focuses on installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting industrial machinery and equipment in a manufacturing environment. You will work hands-on with electrical and mechanical systems, support plant layout changes, and ensure equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably. The position offers the opportunity to work with a variety of advanced technologies while contributing directly to continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Participate directly in the installation of new machinery and mechanical equipment used in manufacturing operations.
  • Plan, coordinate, and guide others during machinery and equipment installation projects.
  • Install and maintain machines, control panels, switchboards, junction boxes, switches, and motors.
  • Test electrical circuits, interpret diagnostic readings, and take corrective action to resolve issues.
  • Discuss and review test results with external machine tool manufacturers to obtain technical guidance and recommendations.
  • Work closely with engineering staff to coordinate procedures for plant layout changes that involve moving machines and equipment controls.
  • Provide input on equipment placement, cost, and time requirements to achieve optimal results for layout changes.
  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical issues associated with automated machine tools using diagnostic equipment and observation of machine operation.
  • Consult with equipment vendors to verify the root cause of equipment problems and confirm repair strategies.
  • Use appropriate hand and power tools to replace components, make adjustments, and recalibrate machinery to restore equipment to proper operating condition quickly and efficiently.
  • Manage equipment maintenance manuals and service records to ensure accurate documentation and easy reference.
  • Monitor the completion of outstanding work orders assigned to third-party maintenance contractors and verify quality of work.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with service providers and provide coaching and feedback to support high performance.
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership on maintenance contracts and support the management of the maintenance shop and spare parts inventory.
  • Set up and organize the maintenance shop, including hand and bench tools and supplies required for machine maintenance programs.
  • Issue purchase orders to maintain parts inventory at proper levels and implement systems and procedures for receiving and parts issuance.
  • Participate in and sustain 6S activities to maintain an organized, efficient, and safe work environment.
  • Work safely at all times and strictly follow safety policies, including lockout/tag out procedures.
  • Encourage and verify that co-workers are working safely and following safety policies.
  • Participate in kaizen events and help sustain improvements implemented during those events.
  • Perform related duties and additional tasks as assigned or directed to support maintenance and production needs.
Essential Skills
  • At least 3 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Hands-on experience working with 480V electrical systems and 3-phase motors.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics or drawings.
  • Demonstrated experience with lockout/tag out procedures.
  • Experience working with hydraulic systems in an industrial environment.
  • Basic welding skills using MIG or TIG processes.
  • Experience working with AC and DC motors and drives.
  • Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting, including 480V, 3-phase systems and motor controls.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues on automated machine tools.
  • Experience using diagnostic tools and test equipment to identify and resolve equipment malfunctions.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in hydraulics, pneumatics, and general industrial maintenance.
  • Ability to read and work from maintenance manuals and technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with maintenance repair practices and procedures in an industrial setting.
  • Knowledge and practical application of lockout/tag out and other safety procedures.
  • Ability to manage and maintain maintenance records and documentation accurately.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with PLCs, including platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Eaton, and Automation Direct.
  • Ability to perform PLC troubleshooting and work with programmable logic controllers.
  • Arc flash or electrical safety training and familiarity with arc flash gear.
  • Experience with building maintenance in addition to equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to read and understand relay logic or ladder logic diagrams.
  • Experience with relay logic systems and motor control circuits.
  • Familiarity with 6S and continuous improvement practices such as kaizen.
  • Experience with welding (MIG and TIG) for maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Comfort working with industrial chemicals such as acetone, polystyrene, and fiberglass when proper safety measures are in place.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing facility that produces window products and operates on off-shift schedules. Candidates can select a preferred shift from second shift (approximately 4:00 p.m. to 12:20 a.m.) or third shift (approximately 12:00 a.m. to 8:20 a.m.), with regular weekend work and an average of about 48 hours per week. The maintenance team consists of five maintenance technicians and one maintenance leader, with strong tenure and a history of low turnover, often hiring only to replace retirees. The facility uses various chemicals, including acetone, polystyrene, and fiberglass; the environment may have a noticeable acetone odor, and appropriate safety measures and protective equipment are used to handle these materials. The work involves regular use of hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, welding equipment, and industrial electrical systems such as 480V, 3-phase power, AC/DC motors, drives, hydraulics, pneumatics, and PLCs. The environment emphasizes safety, including adherence to lockout/tag out procedures, arc flash safety practices, and participation in 6S and kaizen activities. A standard industrial dress code is expected, including appropriate personal protective equipment suitable for a maintenance and manufacturing setting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.41 - $28.41/hr.
