This position is considered a field position and will not be required to report into a physical office on daily basis but based on operational need.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Performs complex ergonomic surveys and investigations for the purpose of drawing complex scientific and technical conclusions from a multiplicity of perplexing industrial risk hazards.
  • Interprets varied complex technical topics and applies advanced methodologies related to biomechanics, physiology, other human factors and engineering technologies to derive engineering project controls in the prevention of injury and illness loses.
  • Identifies applicable regulatory and non-regulatory standards during inspection and evaluation of existing safety program to ensure compliance.
  • Prepares written and oral reports of investigation and sensitive findings presented to all skill level audiences including labor, engineering and the most senior management; counsels with employers, union representative and management/labor organization top officials to obtain, provide, interpret, or explain information for administrative policy development and/or negotiation; advises and explain implementation of measures and large-scale engineering changes required for control of losses.
  • Establishes and maintains contact with safety consultants, engineering staff, all levels of management to provide service.

Qualifications

To Qualify, You Must Clearly Demonstrate:

Completion of undergraduate core program in industrial engineering or physical/natural sciences AND 12 mos. exp. in private sector or other governmental agency performing same or comparable duties of Ergonomist 2, 24512 AND 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in technical writing AND valid driver's license.



  • Or 12 mos. exp. as Ergonomist 2, 24512 AND 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in technical writing AND valid driver's license.

  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

Unusual Working Conditions:

  • Non-standard work hours
  • Position requires travel (25% - 75%) ; therefore, persons occupying this position must be able to provide their own transportation and/or legally operate a state-owned vehicle.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required; occasional extended work hours including second and third shift; frequent exposure to noise, dirt, temperature extremes, all industrial hazards and occasional toxic substances, caustics, carcinogens, frequent constrained and prolonged static work postures.

BWC OCSEA Selection Rights:
This position shall be filled in accordance with the provisions of the OCSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement. BWC bargaining unit members have selection rights before non-bargaining unit members. All other applications will only be considered if an internal bargaining unit applicant is not selected for this position.

Salary Information:

Hourly wage is expected to be paid at step 1 of the pay range associated with the position for candidates who are new employees of the state. Current employees of the state will be placed in the appropriate step based on any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code. Movement to the next step of the pay range (a roughly 4% increase) will occur after six months, assuming job performance is acceptable. Thereafter, an employee will advance one step in the pay range every year until the highest step of the pay range is reached. There may also be possible cost of living adjustments (COLA) and longevity supplements begin after five (5) years of state service.
