CNC Precision Machining Specialist
What your day looks like
You arrive to a clean, well-organized shop, review the day’s router, and set up a CNC VTL, then pivot to a horizontal mill—dialing in tooling, offsets, and coolant flow. With blueprints in hand, you program and run parts to tight tolerances, inspect critical features, and tweak code so the next cycle runs even better. You document what you learn, suggest process improvements, and keep equipment in peak condition—all while advancing a forward-thinking, collaborative, and ethical workplace.
Key responsibilities
- Set up, program, and operate CNC equipment (CNC VTL, CNC horizontal mill, CNC vertical mill, and CNC horizontal lathes) to produce components to precise dimensions and tolerances within assigned router hours.
- Interpret and work from blueprints, verbal instructions, and written specifications to plan machining operations.
- Select, align, and verify cutting tools for sharpness and suitability; adjust tool lengths, work offsets, and fixtures.
- Calculate and set machine controls and programs for speed, feed, coolant, depth of cut, and angles; apply basic CNC programming and edit programs to fine-tune performance.
- Monitor operations to catch malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions; make real-time adjustments to maintain quality.
- Inspect parts during and after machining using appropriate measuring instruments; document results.
- Clean and maintain machines, tooling, and work area to keep equipment in optimal production condition.
- Recommend improvements to methods, equipment performance, and product quality.
What you bring
- Proficiency operating a range of machine tools to perform progressive machining tasks.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints/plans and follow complex routing.
- Strong math, mechanical aptitude, problem-solving ability, organization, attention to detail, and time management.
- Values that align with ours: personal accountability, discipline, trust, and proactive action.
- High school diploma or GED (required); completion of a vocational machining program (preferred).
- Experience setting up, programming, and operating CNC VTLs, horizontal and vertical mills, and horizontal lathes.
- Ability to operate a forklift and overhead crane; skill with precision measuring instruments; aptitude for maintaining shop machinery.
Work environment and physical demands
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs occasionally; items over 50 lbs require a team lift or a lifting device.
- Climb and work from ladders; operate lifting devices; move about the shop floor without assistance.
- Occasional work in confined spaces, including crawling in, on, and under equipment.
- Comfort working in a typical shop environment with heat, cold, dust, noise, fumes, and other elements.
- Required PPE: safety glasses and steel-toe shoes; additional PPE as needed.
