The Armstrong Student Center is a 242,000 square foot complex and the site for approximately 3,500 meetings and events per year. The center manages event production, building operations, student organization office space, and recreation amenities to create the "living room of campus." This position is designed to support student and professional staff in ensuring continuity of services, maintaining a student-centered approach to our work and adhering to our core values of collaboration, stewardship, inclusion, learning and caring.Job Description
Technology
Responsible for managing technology associated with the student center, including: AV equipment, assistive technology devices, sound and light equipment, digital advertising displays, and security systems (camera system, key control, etc.)
Develops relationships with on and off campus partners who help maintain Armstrong technology: Information Technology, ESports, outside contractors.
Maintain inventory of technology and AV equipment
Meet with departments, student organizations and external clients, as requested, to provide advice and guidance regarding AV services and functionality for events.
Manage repair, replacement and preventive maintenance schedules
Creates budget projections for annual maintenance costs
Trains student staff on use of all building technology, AV systems, and sound systems (including sound and light boards)
Directs the technical and digital infrastructure of the Armstrong Esports Lounge, and the RedZone game room, including management of the ggLeap platform, computer hardware and user access to ensure a positive gaming experience.
Facilities
Directs the daily facility operations of the student center, specifically managing building systems, physical facilities, hardware and technical components. Collaborates and works closely with student Building and Events Managers to ensure good communication and completion of facilities related activities.
Responsible for the care and maintenance of facility infrastructure, furniture, fixtures and equipment. Serves as the primary liaison for off-campus service providers, managing vendor contracts and performance.
Develops and maintains relationships with campus partners who contribute to a positive building environment, including: physical facilities, dining services, custodial services, campus police, and building tenants
Develops and manages repair, replacement and preventive maintenance schedules
Creates annual budget projections for both physical and technical maintenance costs
Works in collaboration with the Associate Director and Director to manage project construction & contractors tied to building improvements
Submits and tracks work orders and help manage repairs and maintenance of facility
Administers building automation (BAS) to regulate climate control for large-scale event venues, optimizing occupant comfort while executing energy-saving protocols during periods of low occupancy.
Manages building access and security through oversight of key inventory/control, computer-controlled access points and building CCTV systems.
Assists in sustainability initiatives as related to the facility and equipment
Trains student employees on proper usage of equipment and set up
Event & Student Staff Support
Alongside the Assistant Director for Event Operations, serves as a key advisor and indirect supervisor to student management teams, delivering guidance on physical facility maintenance and technology systems, including troubleshooting support.
Acts as the designated on-site lead, providing AV production support for high-profile events (may include occasional evenings or weekends).
Other departmental and divisional opportunities
Designated as "Essential Personnel," providing critical on-site leadership and operational support during weather-related events, facility emergencies, and campus-wide crises to ensure student safety and infrastructure protection.
Represents departmental interests on the Miami University Parking Advisory Board
Serves as a primary Building Point of Contact (BPOC), acting as a liaison between the facility, university administration, and Physical Facilities
Partners directly with the Miami University Police Department (MUPD) to assess facility security needs
Maintains a high degree of flexibility by executing specialized projects and "other duties as assigned”.
Minimu m Qualifications
Bachelor's degree conferred by start date and two years of professional experience in an educational setting, event management, theater, or facility operations.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Student Affairs/Higher Education, theater, management, facility operations or related fields.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Experience with the use and configuration of sound, lighting and audio visual systems
Strong organizational skills
Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
Experience providing excellent customer service
Must be willing and able to work some evenings and weekends as needed to support events and activities - will have a flexible schedule
Ability to manage multiple tasks and a fast-paced environment
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Experience with the use and configuration of gaming systems and/or e-sports operations.
Skilled at providing AV support for meetings, conferences or events.
Experience in a higher education, facility operations and/or student centers
