Job Title: HVAC Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced HVAC Engineer to serve as the Engineer of Record and Responsible Charge Engineer for HVAC systems on permitted projects. The successful candidate will exercise direct supervision, professional judgment, and decision-making authority over all HVAC design aspects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Engineer of Record and Responsible Charge Engineer for HVAC systems on permitted projects.

  • Exercise direct supervision, professional judgment, and decision-making authority over all HVAC design aspects.

  • Review, approve, and seal HVAC construction documents prepared using AutoCAD and Revit.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and best practices, including but not limited to International Mechanical Code (IMC), ASHRAE standards, Local AHJ requirements, and energy and sustainability codes.

  • Provide technical direction on system selection, sizing, layout, controls, and constructability.

  • Oversee HVAC scope across multiple projects, ensuring quality, consistency, and adherence to schedules.

  • Set clear technical requirements, milestones, and deliverables for mechanical engineering teams.

  • Participate in project kickoff meetings, internal reviews, and coordination meetings with architects, owners, and consultants.

  • Resolve complex design challenges and provide final technical determinations.

  • Meet regularly with engineers and designers producing HVAC work to provide guidance, feedback, and coaching.

  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers in technical HVAC design, professional judgment, and licensure development.

  • Hire mechanical engineering staff and coordinate onboarding, training, and ongoing professional development.

  • Assist leadership in defining and executing HVAC design strategies aligned with company objectives.

  • Prepare and manage the mechanical engineering department's budget, staffing plans, and resource needs.

  • Contribute to long-term planning for future development, capacity growth, and service offerings.

  • Implement innovative tools, workflows, and technologies to improve efficiency and quality.

  • Review, develop, and update internal policies, procedures, and standards related to mechanical engineering processes.

  • Build and strengthen relationships with HVAC equipment manufacturers, sales representatives, local installing contractors, and trade partners.

  • Serve as a technical ambassador for the firm, supporting proposal efforts, interviews, and client discussions as needed.

  • Support the company's reputation for quality, professionalism, and engineering excellence in the marketplace.

  • Actively support and model the company's values, culture, and commitment to professional integrity.

  • Communicate clearly, respectfully, and effectively with internal teams, clients, and external partners.

  • Promote collaboration across disciplines and contribute to a positive, growth-oriented workplace.

Essential Skills

  • HVAC engineering experience of 8+ years.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required.

  • Proficient in AutoCAD and/or Revit.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in mentoring and developing engineering staff.

  • Ability to implement innovative tools and technologies.

  • Strong relationship-building skills with manufacturers and contractors.

Work Environment

The position offers a hybrid schedule with the flexibility of working 3 to 4 days in the office depending on weekly and project deadlines. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $160000.00/yr.

Annual Performance Bonus (10%-20% of base salary) Eligible for profit sharing Potential pathway to senior leadership or equity participation for the right candidate (not promised, but very real).
