We are seeking an accomplished Executive Director, Facilities Operations to provide strategic leadership for a large and complex healthcare facilities portfolio throughout Northeast Ohio. This executive-level opportunity is ideal for a proven leader who excels at driving operational excellence, building high-performing teams, managing large-scale healthcare environments, and partnering with senior executives to support organizational growth.
The successful candidate will oversee facilities management operations across an extensive ambulatory care network, ensuring safe, compliant, efficient, and patient-focused environments that support exceptional healthcare delivery.
Position Overview
The Executive Director, Facilities Operations will provide executive leadership for facilities management, engineering services, maintenance operations, asset management, vendor relationships, regulatory compliance, and operational performance across a diverse portfolio of healthcare facilities.
This role requires a strategic leader capable of managing large teams, multiple locations, significant operating budgets, and complex stakeholder relationships while driving continuous improvement initiatives and long-term operational success.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead facilities operations across a large multi-site healthcare portfolio.
- Develop and execute long-term facilities management strategies aligned with organizational objectives.
- Oversee maintenance operations, engineering services, utilities management, asset lifecycle planning, and facility performance initiatives.
- Drive operational consistency, service excellence, and continuous improvement across multiple healthcare locations.
- Partner with executive leadership, healthcare administrators, physicians, and operational stakeholders to support strategic priorities.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory, accreditation, environmental, and life safety requirements.
- Manage facility-related capital projects, renovations, infrastructure improvements, and vendor partnerships.
- Oversee contracted services and operational support functions, including:
- Grounds maintenance
- Environmental services
- Security services
- Inventory management
- Logistics operations
- Other facility support services
- Establish performance metrics, operational standards, and accountability measures across the portfolio.
- Lead workforce planning, talent development, succession planning, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Manage large operating budgets, forecasting activities, and financial performance objectives.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance the patient and visitor experience.
- Support organizational growth initiatives through scalable facilities management solutions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 7 years of management experience.
- Minimum 7 years of facilities management, engineering operations, or business/operations services experience.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing large multi-site facilities portfolios.
- Proven success managing large teams and substantial FTE populations across multiple locations.
- Strong leadership experience within healthcare facilities management, engineering operations, or integrated facilities services environments.
- Experience managing both hard and soft facilities services.
- Strong financial management and budget oversight experience.
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
- Experience developing and implementing operational strategies across complex organizations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting healthcare systems, ambulatory care networks, or academic medical environments.
- Experience managing large regional or enterprise-wide facilities portfolios.
- Experience leading facilities operations across hundreds of locations.
- Strong background in regulatory compliance, accreditation standards, and life safety programs.
- Experience managing capital planning and infrastructure improvement initiatives.
- Proven success partnering with C-suite executives and senior healthcare leadership.
