Come join our team!The Landfill Supervisor position is responsible for coordinating landfill operations and employees to ensure that performance goals are met while maintaining compliance with the EPA. Landfill Supervisors hire, train, coach, evaluate, counsel, and manage the performance of the landfill staff with an emphasis on safety and productivity. Landfill Supervisors help to ensure environmental safety and compliance are met while maintaining productivity. Responsibilities of Position:Under the direction of Management, directs the daily activities of landfill staffEnsures all work/equipment operation performed by staff is completed in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policiesManages the landfill staff, including hiring, training, scheduling work assignments, performance management, discipline, and authorization of overtimePerforms timely performance reviews for employees, recommends disciplinary actions, and completes all other required documentation relating to assigned personnelMaintains the landfill to meet requirements for EPA inspectionsWorks with landfill staff to ensure established production and quality control standards are metMonitors and enforces quality and safety standards and ensures all compliance goals are met or exceededOversees operation of trash fill, site, and/or construction areas and completes necessary daily reportsTracks certifications of landfill staff and provides training as neededContinuously monitors the equipment to ensure proper operation and minimal down timeProfessionally interacts with internal and external customersEnsures employee’s daily log sheets are filled out correctly and accuratelyAssures completion of operator observation forms in a timely mannerPerforms other duties as assignedSupervisory Responsibility:This position will manage 6-20 employeesThis position will oversee and direct other managersSkills & Abilities Needed for Position:Ability to operate all landfill equipment proficientlyMust be able to read and understand landfill plansMust be familiar with EPA and all other requirements regarding landfill operationsMust have working knowledge of basic computer programs including Microsoft OfficeMust be dependable, a self-starter, and able to identify and perform daily operational requirementsGood verbal communication skills in order to communicate effectively with others
Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:1-2 years experience in a related work environment required (landfill experience highly preferred)5 years experience operating heavy equipment preferredPrevious supervisory experience is highly preferredSurveying and GPS experience. preferredConstruction background a plusPhysical Requirements in a Regular Workday:Frequently lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 20 lbsOccasionally lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 75 lbsRarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 100 lbsContinuously working outsideFrequently working in changing temperaturesOccasionally working in wet/humid conditionsFrequently working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matterOccasionally stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawlingFrequently climbing and/or balancingFrequently sitting/standing/walkingAdditional Working Conditions/Aspects:Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areasExposure to residential and commercial wasteAbility to travel between offices, as requiredAbility to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as neededAbility to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidaysMust be available for 24-hour emergency callsLegally eligible to work in the United StatesValid driver’s license (if applicable)Must successfully complete pre-employment testingMust be able to read and speak the English languageThis job description is intended to describe the general nature, complexity, and level of work to be performed by employees assigned to this position and is not to be construed as an exhaustive list of responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required.
