General Purpose & Overview
This role will work closely with field sales, product development and service personnel to develop and design solutions for packaging delivery systems. These systems will integrate STOROpack® packaging solutions with customers packaging process in an effective, efficient and ergonomic manner.
The Mechatronics Engineer is responsible for designing, quoting, integrating, and supporting advanced automation systems involving robotics, gantries, motion control, conveyance equipment, machine vision, and custom mechatronic solutions. This role combines mechanical design, electrical controls, software development, and hands‐on troubleshooting.
The engineer will manage key suppliers, coordinate system builds, support onsite installation, and apply strong mechatronics fundamentals—including sensors, actuators, control wiring, electrical systems, PLC/HMI programming, and CAD modeling. This role requires strong electronic and electrical troubleshooting skills , including diagnosing component failures, wiring issues, control logic faults, and system-level performance problems.
Ideal for engineers with 4–6 years of experience who are comfortable working across mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines.
Mechatronic System Design & Integration
- Design and illustrate integrated automation concepts using SolidWorks, including robots, gantries, conveyors, safety systems, custom mechanisms, custom mechanical solutions for integrations.
- Develop electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical and ensure proper component selection (sensors, actuators, drives, pneumatics, power distribution).
- Integrate PLCs, HMIs, motion systems, robotics, and vision systems into cohesive mechatronic workflows.
- Develop structured text (“C”-style) and ladder logic programs for machine control.
- Participate directly in assembly, wiring, mechanical integration, and system bring‐up.
Electronic & Electrical Troubleshooting
- Diagnose issues involving sensors, relays, PLC I/O, servo drives, VFDs, circuit faults, and control panel wiring.
- Troubleshoot system-level electrical and electronic failures
- Identify root causes of failures and drive corrective actions across mechanical, electrical, and software domains.
- Support field technicians and customers with second-level technical troubleshooting for Storopack solutions.
Customer, Distributor & Solution Engineering
- Understand Storopack equipment, materials, and integration capabilities.
- Work with distributors and end users to map workflows, assess automation needs, and recommend improvements.
- Develop customized integration concepts and layouts tailored to customer processes.
- Provide technical support to global Sales Teams during concept development and quoting.
Supplier & Project Management
- Manage relationships with robotics, controls, mechanical, and automation component suppliers.
- Prepare cost estimates, integration budgets, and value/ROI analyses.
- Project manage system builds from concept through installation, ensuring timelines, cost targets, and functionality requirements are met.
- Support onsite commissioning, testing, and system acceptance.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with controls focus, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of PLC programming or troubleshooting experience (required).
- Proficiency with SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD tools.
- Strong electronic and electrical troubleshooting skills , with hands-on diagnostics experience.
- Working knowledge of servos, pneumatics, actuators, industrial sensors, and control wiring.
- Hands-on ability to assemble, test, and debug prototypes and production systems.
- Strong Excel skills for calculations, models, and data analysis.
- Preferred experience with Omron , Allen‐Bradley , and Siemens PLCs.
- Experience with machine vision systems (cameras, sensors, evaluation algorithms).
- Experience with robotics (gantry, articulated, collaborative).
- 2+ years designing or evaluating machine safety systems.
- 2+ years with conveyor wiring and control systems (preferred).
- Solid understanding of structured text (“C”-style) programming.

- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with distributors, suppliers, and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously.
- Comfortable in hands-on environments requiring testing, troubleshooting, and installation work.
- Driven self-starter who works well independently and in cross-functional teams.
- Handle all communications with confidentiality.
- Lifting, kneeling, stooping
- Ability to move around equipment/conveyors to identify customer current layout vs. revised and improved layout.
- Ability to stand and work for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work in warm/hot non-air-conditioned environment.
- Physically capable of lifting parts and equipment up to 40 lbs. (without assistance).
- Ability to travel up to 25% for installations, troubleshooting, supplier visits, and customer support.
