JOB DESCRIPTION
Marine HR Manager
Job Summary:
Responsible for the management of marine human capital to support operations in a 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week maritime industry. Works closely with all areas of the organization to ensure HR compliance, contract administration, recruitment, crewing, training, and assistance to mariners in coordinating travel, expense reimbursements, and license renewals are met. Uses discretionary decision-making authority to solve day-to-day problems associated with managing all aspects of marine personnel. Provides operations assistance to marine operations management on an as-needed basis.
Specific Responsibilities :
- Handles HR matters concerning manning of vessels with qualified, certified, and medically fit personnel for the assigned group.
- Participates in recruiting events.
- Assist in the hiring of individuals as required to crew vessels consistent with US Coast Guard license requirements and EEO commitment.
- Ensure NS and ADP databases are fully updated for the assigned group.
- Ensure mariners' licenses and certificates are up to date.
- Assigns work schedules to marine employees with a focus on long-term planning to ensure optimum utilization and cost efficiency. Manage vacation and illness relief for marine employees.
- Coordinates flights, hotels, and rental cars for marine employees in accordance with policy.
- Process travel expenses and reimbursement for marine employees.
- Trained as Designated Employer Representative for Drug and Alcohol testing and ensures compliance with Drug and Alcohol policy and program.
- Coordinates special payroll situations in accordance with the union Contract between the marine employees and the payroll department.
- Participate in regular vessel visits.
- Participate in internal and external audits.
- Actively participate in process improvements and implementations concerning marine HR.
- Contribute to establishing and developing marine HR KPI's
- Actively contributes to enhancing mariner satisfaction.
- Maintain Seniority lists.
- Identify and ensure mariners are in compliance with training.
- Identify and coordinate training as necessary.
- Assist and counsel marine operations leadership on matters of conduct, discipline, performance, and performance evaluations.
- Labor Contract administration.
- Perform other projects as assigned.
EXPERIENCE
- 3- 5 years HR Generalist or related experience, or a combination of education and experience.
- Experience in a union environment is a plus.
EDUCATION
- Preference given for a bachelor's degree in HR or from a maritime academy
SKILLS
- Must have strong customer service skills.
- Legal with regard to EEO hiring and discipline. Knowledge of general human resources functions and applicable regulations.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to tactfully interact with a wide range of personalities.
- Ability to organize workload and prioritize projects in an ever-changing environment.
- Ability to work under pressure
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE:
- ADP and NS software
- Concur travel
- Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Must have strong customer service skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must follow all PPE policies by wearing steel-toed shoes, personal flotation devices, hearing protection, and safety glasses when required.
- May be required to work more than a normal workweek, including weekends as needed.
- Occasional Travel
- Ability to access vessels by climbing ladders at height and transiting bulwarks.
- Climbing stairs, bending, stooping, and reaching overhead indoors in different weather and environmental conditions.
- Ability to move up to 25 pounds.
